Amanda,
Over on the K page from the main website, you'll find the Recommended Reading list for K

here's a short cut for you

The books are also mentioned at the end of each lesson on day six. It gives you the 'recommended' book and 2 or so alternate books and gives the activities to be done with each book.

Occasionally some books are mentioned on Day One of each unit. It says to look in an encyclopedia for info (and I often checked out various library books on the topic) and suggests a book or two which go along with the topic. (i.e. apples unit)

"Moonbear's Shadow" the same as "Bear Shadow"?

rosecottage wrote:The cover illustration Amazon shows looks almost identical to that of "Bear Shadow." I can look at "Moonbear's Shadow" at Amazon. The bear goes fishing and his shadow scares the fish. He tries to run to get rid of his shadow. He tries to nail his shadow to the ground. That's all I could see.

My local libraries do not have this title, not sure I want to do an inter-library loan. Also not sure I want to wait for a vendor to possibly take forever sending a used version. Does anyone know about this?

I'm pretty sure they are one in the same. I pulled out my copy of Bear Shadow and it's just as you described. Also, I seem to remember reading that the Bear books had been republished, with this one book being changed slightly. It was originally published in 1985, but Scholastic didn't publish it until 1990. So maybe that's when the change occurred? Or maybe it's been handed off to another publisher? Hmm.....I do think they are the same book, if that helps at all!

Yep, it's the same book. We just read it yesteday and went outside to try and get rid of our shadows. The kids had fun and "read" it again today to themselves (ds 4 1/2 - dd 2 1/2). We have had such a blast doing the sun unit these last couple of weeks!! We are just going to love this program!! We had a couple days of no sun, therefore no shadows, 50 - 60 degree weather earlier this week.... now it's 100 degrees outside and our A/C keeps blowing fuses!! Can't complain too much, the kids are loving checking the sundial and drawing their shadows on the sidewalk with chalk...

Okay I'm way off subject now. Yes it's the same book. (Can you tell we loved it??) lol
