Bible - What age to purchase the NIrV Discoverer's Bible

We are in MFWK and I really could use a children's Bible. I am looking at the Discoverer's Bible and "Holy Bible International Version" red cover. Amazon has this.

The problem is that we will be buying Adventures in two years and I don't want to end up with a duplicate. If one can work until the other is used, that would be good. Anyone have both?
Thanks,Ann

Hi Ann ~

My son certainly falls into the average category when it comes to reading (a math kid, he is!). We started Adventures in the fall & have LOVED the NIrV Discoverer's Bible. He is able to read most verses by himself, though I do have to assist at times (especially with names & places!). It was written at a 2.9 (I think) grade level and has been a great encouragement to my reluctant reader.

I think it's a wonderful Bible for beginning readers all the way up to preteen, as it is so easy to understand.

One question: do you have more than one child? If so, get one now for your oldest & then when the one included in your Adventures package arrives, let that go to the next oldest child. If you are a one-child family, having two different translations can only be helpful as you begin to study the Bible together. It's always good to see the slight nuances in the different interpretations/translations.

You know, we use a NIrV Bible at night when we do Bible study with a 10-year-old, an occasional 19-year-old, and 2 adult parents! We have 3 NIrV Bibles so we can all look on.

I just love the NIrV for helping folks really read the entire Bible the first time. I just know so many folks who have lovely Bibles but have never really read them thru.

With the NIrV, it is the full Bible but short sentences, so no risk of not understanding what you read. The version that MFW carries has nice large print, also, which is good for little ones (and also great for 40-somethings whose eyesight is starting to go :o)

Yes, I suppose by the time I get to that bible in Adventures, my dd can have that one and I'll still be using the NIRV! We'll each have our own, plus I am 40-somthing. I do need the bigger print! LOL!
