First impressions

All I can say is WOW!!! After reading so much praise for MFW and ECC in particular I was trying to not have too high of expectations. After thumbing through and reading portions and checking out the books, I am VERY impressed. I love the fact that the student pages are notated with week and day. Such attention to the small details. I expect that will come in handy as we get busy with the work. Thank you Hazells.

I was getting on to post the same thing. We just got our box with ECC and K. I'm so impressed, excited and maybe just a little overwelmed :) There is so much there but it is laid out very well. I think we will have a very fun and full year.

How fun! Your description brings back the moment when I first get my newest manual. So much is there, yet it's clean & concise & everything is at my fingertips.

I think the more you've *not* done MFW, the more you realize what a gem it is!

Box Day - First Impressions...

New postby ButtercupsMom » Thu Jul 30, 2009 8:05 am

I thought we could share our first impressions of our new curriculum here, whatever level it is...

I'm impressed with...

...the quality of the books in the deluxe package. For example,
1. I didn't realize that the EcoSystems book is from the Answers in Genesis. I'm so happy about that!
2. The Kingdom Tales book contains all three books in the series. (I now think I remember someone posting this fact.)
3. Paper quality of the student pages, especially the card stock for games, etc.
4. Those are some passports! WOW!

...the thoroughness of the TM for initial planning. It was so simple to make a list of needed school supplies.

I'm overwhelmed by...

...thinking of getting my family room changed into a school room. But, that's not a MFW problem. :) At least I know where the World Map is going to hang.

I'm thankful for...

...the helpfulness of others on this bulletin board. I know I'll be able to ask all of my questions here.

Anyone else care to share?

Dawne :-)

I'm thankful that MFW makes it so easy I don't have to think practically. With the issues in our family, me the teacher working, and then life in general. I love it!

Yes, I, too, love the ease of getting started on a new year. Last week I sat down and went through my ECC teacher manual and highlighted things I want to read again. I wrote down what I needed from the supply list and picked those up at Walmart. I haven't hung my map, yet. I'm waiting to do that as I have ds(19) probably moving out in August sometime. I will then move ds(almost 8) into that room. Then I will have more space to work with in the schoolroom/bedroom.

We have been trying to do some nature study this summer along with keeping up on math facts and reading. A couple weeks ago I ordered All About Spelling levels 1 & 2. I liked what I had read about it helping to learn the phonograms. Ds (8) has already worked through 8 lessons in level 1 as it is easy review for him. I like the fact that dd(4) is an auditory learner sitting right there soaking up those sounds! I had already ordered Spelling Power and read through all the introduction pages when I heard about AAS. I think that SP is a great program, too, and may use it in the future when ds can read and spell better. Right now I think AAS will work better for him.

One thing I won't like about starting formal school again is the fact that I need to get the children up earlier and on a schedule. Sometimes I get anxious wondering how I will get everything (school, cooking, housework, garden work, etc.) done without the help of my dd who got married last March! Then I remember that God has provided this amazing curriculum that doesn't take all day to get done.

Have fun!

I am so glad to have found MFW.
It's the best.

I really like the MFW lesson plans for Saxon math and Apologia science. It's makes it doable and helpful for my child to become a more independent learner.

6 plus years of using MFW--- MFW was an answer to prayer at first impression and remains that to this day. Same reasons as others have said: it's well put together easy to use, takes away the stress so I can get to teaching.

BOX DAY!!!

New postby Cyndi (AZ) » Mon Sep 14, 2009 1:01 pm

This morning at my house:

The UPS driver called from the gate to get buzzed in . . . we waited and watched for the truck . . . dd couldn't figure out why I was so excited . . . he got out of the truck with a big box on his shoulder and I practically squealed. "Thank you," small talk (please leave so I can open this box!) . . . then dd saw the label --

"It's from My Father's World?! WOO HOO!!!" (picture happy-dancing and much jumping).

As I opened the box and lovingly took out each new book, she squealed and reached for it. I told her that I was excited, too, but we needed to be a bit more controlled. She answered, "This is a good time for me to practice just sitting still and being quiet." The next book was Living World Encyclopedia and she screamed "No, it's not!" and grabbed the book!! LOL!

Thanks for reading my silly little story. I'm so thankful for MFW. I feel like they're my best friends. Am I totally crazy, or does it feel like that box is packed with as much love as a care package at Christmas?

So excited to start ECC in a few weeks. (We still have 8 days of ADV left to finish, and then a short break.) I'm going back to look at the books some more now . . . . :-)
2010/11: ECC with my only dd
