Re: MFW book choices question
Welcome back! Glad you found the FAQ pages! The primary text in Creation to the Greeks is the Old Testament, and the primary text at the start of Rome to the Reformation (RTR) is the Gospels. Then once biblical history is complete, Story of the World becomes central, along with Trial and Triumph to ...

Re: New Singapore Math Dimensions
I'm not sure many families have started their school year with Singapore Dimensions yet, so I will start the conversation. Both Dimensions and Primary are Singapore elementary math programs. Marie Hazell and her team found Singapore Dimensions to be the current program that most closely follows the ...

Re: k'er not reading at end of the year
Hi Missy, Wow, your 9th kindergartner, I am in awe of you! I will start the conversation with a few thoughts, and hopefully other busy parents will then chime in with personal experiences. I personally am a big fan of "better late than early," so that is my bias. My oldest son started kind...

Brenda, Yes, materials do change from time to time as publishers take things out of production or issue new editions. For instance, we are in the midst of a transition from Singapore Primary Math U.S. edition to Singapore Dimensions (see the math page on the website for complete info: https://www.mf...

Congrats on your first high schooler!
I hope you have heard from other families. I wanted to also mention that you can feel free to call or email the office, as many of us have had high schoolers!
Blessings as you take this next step,
Julie

Re: Which program to choose with a struggling reader(3rd grade)
Debbie, Welcome back to homeschooling! I thought I would chime in while you wait to hear from other families. If you will only be homeschooling your 3rd grader, then we typically recommend starting with Adventures in U.S. History . Adventures is a slightly shorter day than the Investigate-level prog...

Hi Mary, While you wait for families to respond, I thought I'd give you some reading matter! In this thread on Synergy Groups, I share some of the ways I reached out to find a lab partner for my youngest, which kind of relates to finding a Synergy partner :) Marie Hazell also responds to a couple of...

Re: 11th and 12th Grade MFW vs. dual enrollment
Ruth, Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It is hard for parents to get a close-up look at what is taught and how it is taught, in order to gauge our child's readiness. So input from someone "in the trenches" is priceless. Homeschoolers are blessed to be able to teach courses such ...

Adding another change that has come up as we receive materials we have ordered for 2022. 1850 to Modern Times will have page number revisions to match Story of the World-4 Revised Edition. Story of the World (SOTW) revised editions have been released slowly starting with SOTW-2 in approximately 2007...

Sarah,
I should also add that using trusted Christian texts to complete the U.S. history credit and even the government credit would be an excellent choice for these values-laden subjects, compared to the unknown teaching content at a public or even a private university today.

Re: 11th and 12th Grade MFW vs. dual enrollment
Hi Sarah, Often families want to include a robust Bible credit in 12th grade, preparing students for spiritual disciplines they can use into adulthood, so you may end up wanting the 12th grade package. However, all of the books you will need for the second semester of U.S. history will already be in...

Blessings as you journey through the Bible as a family this year.

Hi Jaime, Too much Bible is a great problem to have! But of course we don't want to be rushed. My family did, as you mentioned, the CTG Bible lessons in the evenings with dad. Re: Enhancing Bible in ECC
Hi again Jaime! I was thinking that, since you were interested in incorporating more narration, Bible would be a great place to do that. Sometimes when kids narrate back what they "hear," you learn a lot about their thinking process and have a chance to add back something you don't want th...

Too funny, I don't remember my kids being squeamish about the pellets. Maybe it's the idea of owls throwing them up?!
I did have my youngest do dissections with another family and my older daughter did them with a college -- I was the one squeamish for those

Re: Narration - How and When does MFW use it?
Hi Jaime, I'll start the conversation. So in 1st grade , narration is introduced in the intro portion of the Teacher's Manual and then starting in Week 12, when students are preparing to write in their Bible Notebooks (see the Notes for Tuesday and Thursday, and beyond). This is just an intro to nar...

Re: Adding 1st Grade Student Workbook to MFW K A to Z
Hi Jaime, I'll start the conversation, and hopefully other parents will have a chance to chime in as well. I suspect it would be difficult to use the phonics workbook without the 1st grade Teacher's Manual, and then you would probably want to add Student Sheets, the Bible Reader, and the Bible Noteb...

Alanna,
Tales From Cherry Lane is scheduled Monday through Thursday beginning in Week 22, when the 10 commandments are studied. There are no special lessons on the read-aloud, but the book can prompt wonderful discussion.
Enjoy!
