I usually have my kids do book basket while I fix lunch. They set a timer for 15 minutes, choose a book(s) and read. This has worked well for us.

I agree with all the previous posters, and don't have much to add. We did Sonlight for 3 years before changing to MFW. I always felt like Sonlight was over my kids head. My kids seem to be learning/retaining more with MFW. They really like the hands on, also. MFW is cheaper, but I miss "owning" all ...
