Re: Motivation

don't answer this out loud if you are not comfortable with that... does he get along with you in non school time? (you're step mom to him if I remember)? or is a lot of that real life dynamic still there? Can his dad help out for school time? I have no boys, so I don't really have any advice or hel...

I have made my own flach cards. I even went as far as writing the blends and new sounds in a different color than the rest of the word. Although we haven't used them in awhile. I may need to take a few days and just review those again. Now when he comes to a big word that he doesn't know, if it can ...

We did K and ECC last year. My oldest did his independent work while I did K, which usually didn't take but an hour to an hour and a half. Then my K child went to his chores and I went to help out w/ ECC.

We are starting our seventh week of CTG and I have found that our days are a little longer. Alot depends on how fast he works. And I think its just taking him awhile to get adjusted to starting back to school.

Hey Kelly, I had this exact same problem last year in K with my 6 yr old. Some words he knew and could read with no problem. The words that he did not know, he would guess. While he was guessing I would remind him that he needed to sound out the words that he did not know, but he would just keep gue...

Wall Map preservation / laminating / storage

Kim Schroter wrote:Those of you who used ECC... What would you advise laminating for this year?
I think I am going to have the wall map laminated, if possible. Office Max can laminate up to 24" wide.

6th grader - Do I need to add more?

Is ECC too "easy" for a 6th grader? I'm looking into next school year. I'll have a 6th grader and 3rd grader. We've covered Ancients and Middle Ages already. I was considering using ECC for 6th gr, then going straight into the last 2 years of MFW to get in Amer History before high school. We haven'...

Saxon - Dive CDs, Answer Key/Solution Manual,

How long to spend on Saxon and Dive CD We have used Saxon math for three years now. We are also doing CTG this year and are using Saxon 8/7. I have always used the DIVE CDs. They are about 10 mins long. I really like them. Math is more my husband's subject than mine, and he is not always available ...

My son loves to read, but he just got burned out with an all-reading curriculum. He got to the point he didn't even want to pick up a book. Some friends of ours turned us on to MFW, and we love it (not to mention it's much cheaper and totally Bible-based).

We condensed down to 5 days. It just worked better for us. The problem we kept running into was after a weekend of play and fun, when Monday rolled around my son had somewhat forgotten what we were working on. I also have a 6th grader, so starting them both on new material on Mondays was easier for ...
