Re: Recently switched back to MFW, need encouragement, long.

Thanks Dorinda and Filitsa for the great encouragement. I have read this board so many times and always feel encouraged! :-) I don't have much time to type, but I am praying about this. I do feel that we've made the right choice with MFW. At the moment. I'm going to keep doing what works and that's ...

Re: Recently switched back to MFW, need encouragement, long.

Thanks Trish! Right now, I am taking him through math at a whirlwind pace, if that makes sense. I am doing that to find and fix gaps, if you know what I mean? Math has always been his worst subject. We have used Abeka Lang. in the past, but never was able to finish a book, and I felt he needed more ...

Re: Well, I did it! I switched over to MFW's LA

Well, after using MFW ECC for the first week, I decided to go with the ILL in book format (not workbook). My ds loves it ! :-) I love the way it's written and how we can do some of those lang. lessons orally. I'm so glad we switched to MFW! ;)

Re: I want to talk writing programs.......

Oh, thanks so much Crystal and Melissa for giving such a thorough explanation. ;) I won't go into my struggles with ds and writing, as I would take over the OP's thread ;) However, you all have given me lots of confidence that MFW does a great job with preparing kiddos in the writing area. Thanks ag...

Re: Teaching an only child?

:) I'm so glad that I just ran across this thread! It has really blessed me in a positive way. I have an "only" ds 10 yrs. (No real reason for an only except that I married late in life and we waited around too long! :-) ) Anyway, I'm an "only"myself and now have an "only". In a way, it's been good ...

Re: suggestions for summer American history study, anyone?

Tammie, Thanks for posting all those lapbook studies. :-) All this gets me really excited about the summer instead of dreading everything. I think we could have fun with this and I won't feel like I cheated ds out of history this past year. :~ Maybe even make that Fourth of July cake that you always...

Ordered ECC, DS has begged me to do this!

We've had a rocky year with changing curriculum. DS is 9 years in 3rd grade, a wiggly willy, possibly ADHD. We started out with ECC in hand, but I got nervous about starting something different (we've been mostly textbooks) and sold it instead. We tried a literature program for awhile, but I wasn't ...

Re: Help me decide on language, please

Yeah, it has been one of "those" assignments. :~ So, I guess, that's when I should just stick to the writing strands. If we keep the Abeka, we could just not do all of their creative writing assignments or etc. I like the ideas you gave me Julie about interesting topics. DS has written some about hi...

Re: Help me decide on language, please

Crystal, thanks for the description of Language Lessons. I needed to know all of that about the book. It sounds really gentle, which is a good thing! I will look at samples again. I have looked at curriculum sooo much that I'm ready to make a decision and move on. I think sometimes you just get to t...
