Computer science?
I'm curious to know if anyone does computer science with kids anywhere K-8th? Not typing, but other technology and programming type skills? I've found a few scattered resources here and there, like Khan for programming, but I would like to know what others are using. I would rather not start from s...

Re: Course Descriptions for High School
You can blend the idea of a course description onto the transcript using the name of the resources you are using to give colleges an idea of the level of coursework. For instance, for my ds' High School transcript: Algebra 1 Life of Fred Algebra 1 Art of Problem Solving Algebra 1 I did that for each...

Re: 1850-MOd SOTW tests??
I bought them to use last year (EXP to 1850) and did a few but found that they weren't as useful as narrations.

Re: Why can't I find any long term MFW users?
We have used MFW for 12 years. My oldest is finishing his Junior year in High School. We are very pleased with MFW and the education that our kids have been given through MFW. My kids are we'll educated but what is more they have had a Biblical education second to none. My oldest is very grounded in...

Do you monitor child's books?
I always monitor books. It is the same as monitoring movies and TV except with books, you don't have the ability to listen in as you are making dinner or doing laundry. I personally think it is just as or more important than monitoring screen time. I read or have read pretty much every book my kids ...

Making adjustments to MFWK for an adv early reader
I'm trying to figure out what to do with my dd for her kindergarten year. I initially had planned to start K with her next summer but she took off with reading and is now reading 2nd grade level books (she is also doing some simple addition, patterns, etc... for math). Her fine motor skills are mor...

Re: What to do with a 4yo who wants to learn to read?
I would teach him using the flashcards in MFWK and sing the song. A,a, Apple, b,b, butterfly and continue to work on the sounds of the letters. Make it a game. Don't push it but if he is asking have him take baby steps. Not a full program just the sounds.

Re: High School Time Savers? 11 grader bogged down
My ds is in 11th grade and we do many of the reviews verbally. For instance, the chapter reviews in BJU and the retention questions in American Literature can be done verbally. Also, looking through the American Literature Supplement there are Assignments that could be used as discussions versus ess...

Re: SOTW Activity Book-Too much for Exp-1850?
I have used the Activity Book because my kids like to color and they have more coloring and activity pages. However, you need to decide which one has precedence. For instance, if there is a page that is similar in both which one will you do? Generally, I use MFW as my have to and SOTW as an extra fo...

Re: AHL - OT Challenge - 2nd copies
I had my own copy of the OT challenge as I did work through it alongside my son but we did all the questions in a discussion format. So, it could be possible to have only one copy. I also have younger ones coming up so I didn't write in my book and plan to give it to one of my younger ones. Oh, and ...

Re: meaps/learning styles/etc
I have found that standardized testing is more about math and language arts than the majority of MFW subjects. I can't think of a time when my kids Bible, History or Science was on a test. I know they say science but we found that it was more reading comprehension than actual scientific knowledge. A...

Starting the 5year cycle over...got a couple ?'s
I'm looking at buying my things I need for next year, and I do not think that I want to update my ECC tm. I already have the geography game all made and laminated, so do I need the parent/teacher supplement? Or am I really missing out on something by not updating? Unless the Lord sends a miracle......

When and how long should we "do" book basket?
I have a 4th grader and a 7th grader---when do we do book basket time and for how long. Is it a different amount of time for different ages? How does that work? (I don't have my curriculum yet, but it has been ordered.) I usually direct my kids to Book Basket when they have finished a subject and a...

Latin for Foreign Language
Has anyone used Latin Alive or Latin for the Christian Trivium? I am having a hard time choosing between the two and wanted to see if there were others who have used either. Re: RTR - Weeks 19 & 20
For older kids, we enjoyed playing a game called, "Lancaster". It takes awhile to set up but each player has to set up a kingdom with castles, knights and even a parliament. For younger kids, I like, "Castle Keep".

The more years I have used, the more I have loved the education my kids are getting. My oldest is do...

Re: Has MFW Successfully Prepared Students Who Went To Colle
My oldest is just finishing his first year in MFW high school and I can say that I am more than pleased at what he has learned. Re: Moody Middle Schoolers
Just a thought.... I know my ds is growing so much that I notice him getting moody when he is hungry or tired. I usually have him get a high protein snack, take a jog to clear his head or if it's desperate take a nap. Then after his attitude changes, we talk about how to avoid it in the first place.

Re: Latin vs Spanish

I used RS for Spanish but not for Latin. Latin is learned very differently from modern languages and I only learned that after I bought a R...

What about a 7th grader done w/cycle?
I'd like to start my kids, 3rd and 5th next year, in RTR. We have covered all the topics in CTG and they are totally "into" the middle ages. That would mean my son would be done 1850-present in 7th grade. Leaving his 8th grade year up in the air. My dd would be in 6th. What would I do with them the...

Re: AHL and AWANA
My ds is in AHL and in Bible Bowl. Bible Bowl is like Awanas with competitions :-) . He travels once a month or so, sometimes out of the state. To be in the top tier and to stay competitive, you have to study ALOT. We have told our kids that school comes first and then Bible Bowl. For us, it is an e...
