Re: Apologia kits 7th-8th grade

I bought a kit from Christian Book Distributors. I think it was a little pricey. However, I think it was worth it. Everything my daughter needs is there and ready to go. It is a big time saver for me and it also helps with keeping her independent.

Re: How to organize student sheets for K?

I have a 2" three ring notebook for completed work and a 1" three ring notebook for student pages not yet completed. I put all worksheets for a letter/unit together in one page protecter. I just pull out the page as I need it. When completed, it goes in a page protecter in the 2" binder. It couldn't...

Re: Medieval Times Dinner

We went to the one in Dallas last year. We did not attend the educational part. We just attended the regular show. As the previous poster stated, there is lots to see and do before the show. I highly recommend it with RtR. They always run discounts/holiday specials right before the end of the year. ...

Re: If you like to finish in late May/Early June.....

Amy I completely agree about schooling during the hot months. That is one reason we start at the beginning of August. The Texas heat is rough. I have even been known to start in July just so that we can have April and May out. Those are the nice months in Texas. I know we will pick back up early Jul...

Re: If you like to finish in late May/Early June.....

Wendy We are about to begin week 14 of Exp. - 1850. We started the first week of August 2012. Are we behind? I choose to say no we are not behind. Will we be finished by the end of March so that we can have our very busy April off? No we will not even come close. I have decided that is just fine. It...

When will 1st grade math "click" - Teaching Addition

My new word this year is model. Model, model, model is my mantra. I have given my dh instructions to please ask me if I modeled the concept whenever I whine about what a tough day we have had. When my kids are struggling with something old or something new I try to remember to just model it for them...

Re: Best ages to read Kingdom Tales?

I tried to read KT to SS when we were in ECC. She was too young -- 8 I think. I put it away. I read some where on the board that it would great with RtR. We finished RtR and I read it to her at the beginning of the summer. She is now 10 (will be 11 in Aug. ). She enjoyed it. It was just right for her.

Astronomy Saturn Centaur Rocket

We tried the rocket described on page 119 in the Astronomy book. It didn't work very well. However, I did a search and found a link in the MFW Kindergarten: http://mpassero.tripod.com/rocket/seltzer/seltzer.htm. This rocket worked great! I do the projects/experiments at a weekly coop. The students l...

RTR Astronomy - Good Viewing This Week

Here is a website that shows night sky viewing of the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and constellations. For us, it is right on tonight. We found the moon, Venus, and Jupiter very quickly. The sun has set here but it is still light. Stars are not visible for us yet but the planets are great! I think I origin...

Hi Annie I am a lefty myself. I think it is just something lefties must adjust to. Throughout my life adjustments had to be made in all areas. I don't remember it being a big deal, just something I had to do. If you think it would help, I think an offfice supply could easily cut off the side includi...

Re: First Day Shout Out

We started today. My kids had fun experiencing a typical Roman school day. We went to a local grocery store that has all kinds of different foods. We enjoyed a mix of Greek, Roman, and Mediterranean food. We brought the leftovers home and had them for supper also. It was 109 in east Texas today. It ...

Re: Handwriting--How far to push??

When my dd10 was learning to write a few years ago we started with the K paper with sky, fence, grass. After she learned letter formation I realized she didn't do well writing that large. She did much better on regular notebook paper. We were all much happier on notebook paper. Just a suggestion... ...

Lori Somewhere on this board I have read where some families have done the grid on a rotation. That means to set your school hours and work your way down the day. When the school day has ended timewise, then your school day is complete whether or not the items for the day are finished . The next day...

Heather, I don't have it all figured out either but I will tell you what I sometimes do here. I like to give ds4 coloring pages that goes along with our Bible for the day. I sometimes make a copy of the student sheet if it is appropriate for ds4. He comes and goes from the school room as we work. He...

Re: Done MFW 1st and can't read

AAS would probably not be necessary during 1st grade because MFW1 does a great job of teaching phonics and adding AAS would just add more to your day. However, looking back - I wish I had done a lot more daily phonics review with dd during MFW1. We should have played a lot more of the games suggeste...

Re: Done MFW 1st and can't read

After completing MFW1 my daughter was reading fine but I knew she needed more phonics instruction/continued review. I went ahead and used SbSS in Adventures because I understood it to be a good phonics review. However, I realized over the course of the year that her spelling and reading were just no...
