Re: How or do your husbands help with school?
My husband is sitting here with me reading this and his comment was "I'm not a very good dad", so I need to brag on him a bit;) though he doesn't actually "teach" a subject or plan etc... he is our "principle" and I do call him during the day for help with children's behaviors!:) He does listen to m...

Re: how are your preps coming along?
Just wanted to say to Amy that I'm right there with you! And even though it wasn't directed toward me I want to thank Chris for her good words(I would say that type of thing to others, but I think I now need someone to say that type of thing to me!!!) I'm expecting baby number 6 somewhere between the...

6 year olds - Do you call them kindergarteners?
Summer birthdays... For those of you with summer Birthday kids, especially boys, do you consider them in the grade they would be in with the cut-off (very young), or on the older side for a grade? Many moms suggested when he was 4 1/2 to wait a year with a summer Birthday until he was six before st...

Re: MFW & SL
Hi Nicole, I just wanted to share that we started using MFW for my oldest kindergarten(though we had to wait until December of that year to have the money, and he had turned 6 that October). I had been researching curriculum for several years prior and when I stumbled onto MFW I knew right away it w...

Re: Newbie of Homeschooling Question and Introduction
Hello Kate, welcome along! I've pretty much just stuck with recommendations from MFW, so I don't have any advice on "other" things to read/buy.....as you get started though you will learn what "works" for your family and what doesn't. We started using MFW with our oldest in Kindergarten(and we're no...

Re: Adventures in two years/? dealing with two kids
We used Adventures for my oldest son's 2nd and 3rd grade years, though we didn't really "stretch out Adventures", if we could of gotten to Adventures everyday we would of completed it in a years time. However, I learned that "life" seemed to demand we do other things rather often and knew we wouldn'...

Re: Just curious about some things...
Like, do you have your children recite The Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not (if you don't mind sharing)? NOT CURRENTLY, BUT WE HAVE. WE DO HAVE FLAGS--THEY ARE NOT VERY LARGE. MY OLDEST SON LOVES THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER--HE LOVED ADVENTURES!!!! Do you school morning...

spelling ? :)
My son loves the SPELLING BY SOUND AND STRUCTURE. Jake is such a creature of habit and just about flipped when I mentioned trying a new spelling and I know he likes what he is doing. Has anyone just stayed with this instead of switching to SPELLING POWER? I feel so up in the air about it all. We ju...

Loving MFW with 5+ kids
We will be starting ECC late summer/early fall with a 4th grader, 2nd grader, 1st grader and a 4 y.o. and 1 y.o. around for the ride(and new baby coming around October). We are finishing up our 4th year with MFW and love, love, love it! One of my favorite things about MFW(though I have many :) is th...

Re: Bible Notebook Summaries
We did something different so I'll share just for the sake of sharing! He can write, he's been taught with MFW for all of his handwriting instruction. But he says ...

Re: Purchasing Student Packet for 1st Grade
It's very easy to just put in a call to order what you need--I did this last year! And children/families will differ on if the reader is consumable--my oldest did not care to keep to the reader as "his" (though I did give him that choice before I handed it down to his sister :) ) But my current 1st ...

Re: American Pioneers and Patriots?
There is a chapter in "On The Banks Of Plum Creek" in which Pa takes Laura to go see the men putting the railroad. It is a drier chapter and not as entertaining as AP&P, but it might be a good thing to read through while doing that unit. Just a suggestion. Any LIW fans out there that know what I'm ...

I was thinking about this awhile back--we have lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents, long distance friends.....that we will choose from (we will begin ECC in July), but it crossed my mind a few weeks back that not everyone has all of the options we do and I wanted to ment...

My oldest ds is also in 2A and also does not like writing! I do have him write them out most of the time (but he does not do much writing in the course of a day--if he did I would not have him write these.....) usually we alternate--he writes one, I write one etc...

Starting K Early
My turning 5 tomorrow son is B-O-R-E-D with my homemade preschool sheets and is more than ready to move on. He would not legally be able to do PS K this year, but homeschooling gives us that advantage right? He knows all of his letters and most of their sounds (older brother did MFW K last year, an...

Re: Helpful book? And routines vs. schedules
This is what we do also--do the next thing!
