Video idea

I have found a great video for the Space portion of Genesis for kids [and RTR Astronomy]. It is called "Created Cosmos" (Special Edition) and it is the planetarium show from the Creation Museum. I got so tired of trying to watch evolutionary models of the locally available Space videos. Some we just...

Re: CTG - Weeks 2 & 3

Thinking Putty!! We just finished week 3 and got to the cuneiform activity...the kids had their Thinking Putty out to play with while I did the reading and so we just used that to do the activity. We tried Popsicle sticks and toothpicks and it was interesting to see the difference in the two. We als...

Re: Other Ideas for Exploring Countries and Cultures

This is a great song that lists ALL the countries in 2 minutes...a good challenge to learn the whole thing by the end of the year! :) [ search youtube for " Round the World Trip - in under 2 minutes "Tongue Twister" , prem73 " ]

Re: Timeline question

For our timeline, I taped cardstock together at the short ends with packing tape and then folded it accordion style. Then I drew a line through the middle of the whole thing with a black marker. I laminated the timeline pieces and we use scotch tape to stick them to the timeline (above and below the...

Re: Hi from Texas

We have used MFW K, 1st, Adventures and are starting up ECC this year and I have loved two things (well, lots more than two!) about it: It's pretty much open and go, which is nice when I am trying to keep my 5 & 6 year old boys moving and it does not take a ton of time to do the lessons...I usually ...

Re: Field Trip Ideas for Adventures

Today we went to the greatest place - Hiwan Homestead Museum - in Evergreen, Colorado, which is just into the foothills outside Denver. It is a great tie-in with Adventures, with two covered wagons, several out buildings that you can tour (a print shop, tools, a mercantile, and the home place which ...

Re: ADV Weeks 18-19

For the Eli Whitney/cotton boll project, we glued flax seeds to the cotton ball - and boy did they stick! The kids had to work really hard to get them out. They were tired after one boll, so it was a great example of how hard it was to do this, especially for the slaves who had to do this work after...

Re: ADV Weeks 14-15

I found a great book for New York! "Lady Liberty: A Biography" by Doreen Rappaport Tavares - the story of the Statue of Liberty is told from a first person perspective from many different people who had a part in Lady Liberty coming to New York. I loved it so much, we are going to buy a copy! Illust...

Re: ADV Weeks 4-5

To learn the verse for this week, John 8:12 "I am the light of the world, he who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.", I took the kids to the basement, with a flash light. It is pitch dark down there w/o lights, so we tried walking and saw how hard it was. Then, I turn...

Re: ADV Weeks 4-5

We ended up making a tepee out of pvc pipe (a freecycle find), landscape fabric, and yarn. The kids had fun, working with Daddy, to get the poles arranged properly, and then they got to help sew the fabric in place. It is pretty sturdy (though not very pretty), but they have had fun playing in it, w...

Re: Weeks 1-3 Videos

We found a couple of videos on Vikings, that have been pretty good. We have watched them and compared them to what we have read in the books, and the kids have learned a lot. One was " Explorers of the World - The Vikings " - by Schlessinger Media - nothing objectionable in this one, that I saw. It ...

Re: Field Trips - Ideas for Adventures

Here in Denver, we have a historical marker in honor of Christopher Columbus downtown...we are going to find a map, and figure out how to get there, and maybe we will take the light rail. Thought it would be a fun way to go "exploring" and if we end up somewhere other than where we planned to go...I...

MFWK files

In order to keep up with all of the great things I read on this board, I have a Word doc that I have saved for each subject. As I find info on each letter (books, acitivites, videos, etc), I copy it to the word doc. Then, as I get ready to go online and pull books and movies from the library, I just...

creation idea

We start Creation next week and I had a crazy idea. We are going to make people out of mud - just like God did...but we are going to see what happens to our people! Breathe on them, set them in the garden, etc. I know the kiddos are going to love this one!!
