Re: Kindergarten to hard for my 6 year old
I guess if this were my kid I would focus on the phonics, writing and math next year. You could choose a different phonics program if you wish or follow the MFW K and 1st phonics. My daughter struggled with learning to read so I chose a more intense phonics program and she has improved so much! She ...

Re: Is ECC too much for a 3rd grader?
Thanks for all the advice. I found out that someone from my co-op is using ECC this year with her kids so I am going to be able to take a look at the curriculum before I decide. I also have a 5 year old doing K and a preschooler. It will be nice when they are old enough to combine because right now ...

Re: sample "schedule" for Adventures?
We are doing Adventures right now too. Here is our schedule. First we do all my dd's Language Arts, which includes spelling, language, reading and writing. Then she takes a short break while I work with my son. After break she does math, and everything else in the Adventures manual. Its been working...

Re: Getting bored with the routine stuff
Have you checked out enchantedlearning.com? I used that site a lot to supplement K for my daughter. Now I am doing K with my preschooler who will be 5 in November and it is perfect for him as it is written. We dont do the songs though because he is not into those at all! Hope you find a way to make ...

First week of school a success! ADV & K
We had a fabulous first day with Adventures and Kindergarten! Even my 3 year old enjoyed doing the creation book with us! My daughter loved the Pledge of Allegiance discussion and we read a great book about it too. Everyone enjoyed the snack with the red, white and blue! They are so excited for tomo...

Re: SO EXCITED...she's reading so much better!!
Thats so wonderful! I love when kids catch on all of a sudden like that! Don't you feel so blessed that you got to see it at home too! My daughter is also a first grader and has really taken off this year too. She struggled in K and I switched porgrams a couple of times and then finally settled on A...

Re: Need some encouragement. My child is not enjoying school
Just a few thoughts... have you tried practicing handwriting in shaving creme, paint, pudding, cornmeal, etc... she may not be ready for pencil paper writing and may still need the large fine motor practice. You can also make letters with masking tape on the carpet and have her trace them with her f...

Re: Need help/advice/support
Does she enjoy when you read to her? I would take a little break and find books that you can read to her that interest her. You really need her to develop a love of reading and maybe a little break is needed right now. You could also play games like Bingo with words that she knows to develop confide...

Re: Adventures for 1st grade???
Wow, thank you for all of the great information! I read all of the responses and then called the My Father's World office today. They confirmed what you were all saying. I think my dd could do the program this year, but I think she will get so much more out of it when she is in 2nd grade. She will a...

Re: Our 2nd grader is struggling with reading
Speaking as a former elementary reading teacher, I strongly believe that phonics instruction is most effective when done 5 days a week and through 3rd grade. This is just my opinion of course, but I have seen it work over and over again with many kids who were struggling. My dd gets lots of practice...
