Re: Economics in High School guide
Julie,
Do you know if you can use Economics in a Box with the current guide, or Oikonomia with a previous guide? I haven't seen the 12th grade guide first hand, so I'm not sure how Economics is scheduled.
Thanks!

Re: Books I already own for AHL
Thanks Ladies! That help immensely. Sorry it took me so long to reply. With Easter and sickness in the house, I forgot to come back and read the answers! It sounds like I should make sure to get Gilgamesh, The Odessy and Bulfinch from MFW so we have the correct editions. I've been thinking about let...

Thanks Julie!
That is extremely helpful. I appreciate it, it helps me to narrow my scope. That's a post that should be saved to the archives!

Re: Where to start? 6th and 4th grade
OK I'll be the voice of dissension. Depending on where you stopped in American History, you could do Ex-1850 or 1850-MOD with your 6 and 4th grader. We started with Ex-1850 with my 4th grader and it worked out beautifully. Everyone told me to start with ECC but that felt too disjointed for us. We ne...

Re: Placement?
I think I would cycle through starting with RTR. Like you, we came to MFW after doing other programs. My oldest was in 4th grade and had already done Ancient History and Medival history but very little to no American History. I decided to put her in EX-1850 and it worked just fine. I did the add ons...

Re: Has anyone NOT done the family cycle?
We did the 2nd and 3rd grade add ons with 1850-Mod. When my oldest was doing MFW, the youngest would still sit and read some of the books with us, or I'd have my oldest read on her own so I could read to my youngest. I thought because my oldest didn't fit in, I should scrap it for my youngest too. I...

Re: Apologia kits 7th-8th grade
CBD has kits for sale around $70-80. Totally worth it! I bought it last year and we never missed an experiment. I didn't buy it this year and we have struggled to keep up with the supplies. I won't make that mistake again.

Re: Why can't I find any long term MFW users?
I wouldn't judge a curriculum to be a success by how many "Long Term" users they have. MFW wasn't complete when I started homeschooling, and, as a matter of fact, my oldest was ahead of them until her 4th grade year. HOD wasn't even around when we started, and that was 10 years ago. The homeschool c...

Re: Recently switched back to MFW, need encouragement, long.
((HUGS)) Don't be too hard on yourself. We've all been there. Over the years we have had major illnesses in our family, surgeries, and a MAJOR move in April last year that basically took us out of school for the remainder of the year. It will be OK, forget the past, just keep moving forward. Here ar...

Hi! I'm so sorry you are going through a hard time. Prayers going up for you and your family. Bless you! Thanks so much! We appreciate the prayers. After 14 years in one place (both our girls were born there), it was a very hard move for everyone. The Lord has truly blessed us and we're so thankful...

Re: Is ECC too much for a 3rd grader?
I think it always depends on the child. it would not have been too much for my oldest when she was in 3rd grade. However, it was too much for my youngest last year and we had to abandon it (we kept the science). If we had waited one more year, it would have been fine. Because we didn't get very far,...

Re: Science-Does any one supplement?
I know this was posted before Christmas, but I thought I'd chime in. We LOVE Apologia in this house. That being said, the only science I intend to sub with my youngest is ...

Placement - After ECC, jumping to American History
Exploration-1850 Have any of you started here in your cycle after ECC instead of going in the recommended order of CTG, RTR, and so on? Can you tell me why this would not be the preferred method other than the fact that doing it this way the history would be out of order? I have a to be 5th and 2nd...

Re: Help me decide between Veritas and MFW
leeandrea said everything I came here to say. The only thing I would add is, it spends WAY too much time in one time-period. We used VP with our oldest when she was in 2nd grade. When I pulled the books out in January to get started again, dd said (though tears), "MOM! Are we EVER going to get out o...

Re: Questions about EX1850
Would these materials be appropriate for a first grader? I also noticed, in another post, a mom referring to additional consumable materials for 2nd/3rd graders to use with this part of the history cycle. Can someone clarify for me how the integration of younger children is planned into the curricu...

Re: Does anyone use any "extras?"
We add on Map Skills. We always have. I just buy Teacher Created Resources book for the appropriate grade. More recently, we've added in Critical Thinking Skills and Test Prep skills (we'll be doing standardized testing with our oldest this year). However, like Julie said, we "SUB" things out. We're...

Re: ADV vs EX1850??
We did EX1850 last year with the go-alongs (4th and 1st grade), and we're doing 1850-Mod this year with the go-alongs with a 2nd and 5th grader. IMO, they are perfect :) I did not buy extra student sheets, but since your "go-along" student will be in 3rd grade, you might want them. My youngest will ...

Written narrations/notebooking pages
We did the first notebooking page in CtG last week on Adam and Eve. Is this what the yellow "star" pages are for? We're starting Monday and I'm sooo excited! Whenever we've done narrations, I've done what Kelly has done. Otherwise, my girls get too frustrated with the process. However, if your girls like writing, I don't see why they can't do what you did.
