Re: nature journaling

Stephanie, I was wondering if you might have a conservatory in your area or a college with a botany department? I'm thinking something along the lines of the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, OH. When I was in college I took a botany class and we had a greenhouse with a large variety of plants (flow...

"Nature fans throughout North America are invited to join tens of thousands of bird watchers for the 12th annual Great Backyard Bird Count on February 13-16. A joint project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the national Audubon So...

In the words of my favorite fish...."Just keep swimming; just keep swimming; just keep swimming, swimming, swimming....." You are not the only hs mom who has had these feelings! There have been (and will be) times when I feel as if I am drowning under the weight and responsibility. During these time...

Digital Media from your library

Just wanted to pass along something worth investigating - I discovered that I can download audio books from our public library for free! I just downloaded The Children's Homer! You can burn a copy to CD, to your computer, to your ipod, etc. You must destroy the copy after fourteen days. I live in Oh...

Re: Are the cards helpful?

I have used the Spelling Power cards with my second grader who is using the Rod and Staff SBSAS workbook, and she likes the activities we have done so far. I used Spelling Power with my two oldest children last year and we NEVER used the cards because they rarely miss any words. I'm sure I have them...

Re: I don't have time to do crafts all day long

Posted: Tue Jun 17, 2008 3:16 pm Stephie, A friend told me about MFW and it was an answered prayer - if only I had found it sooner!! I love MFW! There are many good programs out there but the best program for your family is the one you will actually use! If Mama is stressed, everyone is stressed! I...

CTG Week 17

Just found a really neat website to go with our study of Egypt. We played an online game of Senet, found crafts, and lots of other activities and information at the website for the Cleveland Museum of Art. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the address but it is clevelandart dot org. You must use t...

Laura, How was it starting CTG in Jan? How are you working out learning about the feasts when they are not at the right times? I'm wondering because I'm thinking we will end up doing the same, and starting 1st in Jan. as well. Laurie Posted: Fri May 02, 2008 7:53 am It has not been a problem at all...

Posted: Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:23 am I like all of the suggestions (especially the one about having them clean the kitchen floor while reading!) and wanted to add one more. I write in the grid in the TM all the math, English, and reading lessons I want the kids to accomplish during the week. I then co...

Starting School

We usually host a back to school party for our church homeschool group. It is a pot luck and the kids get to play outside, fish in the pond, walk the trails, visit the creek, etc. Since we all start at different times we just pick a weekend in late August or early September. The kids always have a b...

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:04 pm I used a lot of die-cuts and stickers from the scrapbook store. I also searched online for free, printable pictures. I found a die-cut sun for the sun and a die-cut moon for the moon. I put the moon on black paper and wrote the words with a white scrapbooking marker...
