Posted: Wed Oct 05, 2005 7:04 pm You're right. Pre-reading Streams wouldn't really take all that much time. So, I guess I was just being lazy about that. However, they don't seem to have a problem with me reading it straight out of the book to them. I like the idea of making some notes on the white...

More questions about Streams of Civilization I do find myself a little annoyed with the Streams of Civilization book (in CTG). Not because it's a bad book (it's actually a wonderful text that I wish I was able to study history from when I was in high school). I'm more just annoyed that I don't have...

Week 20: Medeival Music

Posted: Thu Feb 22, 2007 6:14 pm I just wanted to share about a really neat music CD we found. We are in week 20 of Rome to Reformation and I was looking around our library for some Gregorian Chant music. What I found was Canticles of Ecstasy - the music of Hildegard von Bingen by Sequentia. Appare...

We also bought Famous Men of Rome and some of the Bethlehem books too. Another one I've purchased is The World of Christopher Columbus by Genevieve Foster. It is listed for week 24 saying that it compliments the history studies for the rest of the year. I figured it would also compliment the beginni...

We started with a literature-based program with our younger two and quickly became overwhelmed with all the reading. It seemed like all we ever did was read. We found MFW quite by accident, prayed about it a lot (I'd never heard of it before, never met anyone who'd used it, nor had I ever even seen ...

EFRU Dictionaries - Opinions please

What dictionary do you like? Hi: Well this might be a silly question..........we do have a dictionary, but it is falling apart. I am looking for one for my 5th and 3rd grader. Anyone have a recommendation of a dictionary that you like for your kids? I know we will be using it with English from the ...

I read it outloud to my girls. Not that they couldn't read it to themselves, it's just that we like to do it together. We really enjoy the pictures and maps too.

I understood what you meant Sue. And that's what I'll do for my middle dd. I didn't know they had suggestions for beefing up the Astronomy text for high school though. Is that website mentioned in the textbook? Unfortunately, Julie, as far as the human body goes for high school, the Apologia Biology...

Well, that gives me some good ideas for my middle schooler. Thanks Crystal!! I think I'll probably do the same thing as Kelly. We'll have to get a telescope though! I'm thinking for my high schooler that we'll just have to have her doing her own thing in science and we'll use the Apologia Biology. I...

I was just about to post this same question! I, too, hate to send them all off in different directions! I guess my question is, how necessary is the Apologia Gen Sci book for 7th grade? Is the science as scheduled just not "enough" for middle schoolers? Or could we beef it up a bit with library book...

That's funny Julie! We tried to start ours on time, but we had the same problem here in Oregon - cold and rainy! Plus we had unexpected company that week... So, ours was a little late too, but we still did it outside. Our girls transformed their play-structure outside into a succah and hung out out ...

I have to agree that the Celebrate the Feasts book was very helpful and it wasn't hard to do the ones we've done (just hard to fit it in timewise sometimes). The plans and recipes were easy. We made the honey cakes (and the other things) and my girls loved that! It's been neat to focus on the differ...

Feasts - Does CTG celebrate these holidays?

I also am excited about the biblical holidays teachings. Does My Father's World address these holidays? Dawn, MFW has us celebrating the Biblical feasts/holidays in the Creation to Greeks year. We've tried a couple, and missed a couple too. Sometimes it's hard to set aside the time for those things...

Does everyone have their children memorize?

When using PLL and ILL-- Does everyone have their children memorize these selections that are suggested to memorize? I just have a feeling with my 2nd grader, it will take a very long time to memorize "Lady Moon" Lesson 18 PLL. And, what is a stanza? I feel a little foolish asking these things, but...
