Re: Read Alouds for MFW 1

We are enjoying the Thornton Burgess books right now! We've done The Adventures of Prickly Porky (We both had ourselves tied in knots trying to figure out the "mystery" creature! :-) ) and are currently working through Old Mother West Wind (which is a collection of smaller stories). Next up is At Pa...

Re: structured art

So, Tx2mum--I am wasting my time? No...I don't think I'd say you're wasting your time. I mean, if I'd never been taught to shade, I would never have known how to, and my pictures would still look "flat." I'm not sure the best way to balance it. I like the idea from cbollin about demonstrating a tec...

GHA - Freestyle vs. structured art

My daughter loves to draw and color and is very good. But when I teach her art fundamentals (which she is also very good at) she hates it and refuses to use them in her free-style drawing. Frustrated. I'm wondering if with age and maturity she will begin to implement these techniques or if I am jus...

Woohoo for us and MFW K

The concepts are sticking - ie - My dad, dh and brother were recently cutting down a tree (something that scares me to death) and DD was hanging out the door yelling - "You can do it, guys! PERSEVERE!!!!!" (Yay! She was listening during "T" for Turtle.) Thanks for a great curriculum!

Re: MFW-K hit our first little snag

I have a young K'er and while the majority of A-Z is great and easy for her, the handwriting is not. I've told myself just not to bother with it, let her try and we'll get there when we get there. I let her trace mostly and it works great! Yesterday we did the drawing page for U and she did SUCH a g...

Re: Help executing the Kindergarten curriculum

My dd is "technically" not old enough for K, so parts are a little ahead of her abilities (like the writing). I feel like if I do a little tweaking, and continue on that it'll all level out after while. So for her handwriting, we do the finger-tracing of the text. letter, I have her trace letters I'...
