Re: Not convinced ECC is the right choice for 2011
We are half way thru week 3 in ECC. We loved Adventures last year and I must say the first two weeks were tough this year. It is just so different. But I feel like i am finally understanding each book and what to do with each. And how to read the grid without being overwhelmed! My ds is 8 and this i...

ADV suggested time schedule
For those who have taught or are currently teaching ADV, how strictly do you adhere to the suggested time schedule? Or in other words, do you choose to complete all of your days work before lunch? No we don't finish before lunch everyday. Some days we do, but most we don't. I tried to in the beginn...

Re: After week 13 in ADV ...
Don't let the state study stop you from using Adv. Yes there are 50 sheets for the states but there is sooo much more to it than that. We color the sheets and read a little of the info on the back (no we don't read it all). It does not take long at all for him to complete the sheets and I use it as ...

Re: Read-Alouds ... scheduled in ADV?
Just wanted to add that we often finish the books WAY ahead of schedule! My boys have loved all of them and so we usually read every night at bed time. I don't worry about the schedule if we finish early, I just pick another book to fill in that time.

Re: ADV state sheets ... stuck
We have loved Adventures!!! Once we started the State Studies I was a little sad but that was just because we were moving past the Revolution and my boys loved learning about that! But we have enjoyed the state study and ds has not complained at all about doing the sheets. In fact he loves coloring ...

Re: 2nd grade math
My ds is in 2nd this year. He was in private for kinder and first. I started him in 1A just so we could get the hang of singapore. It was super easy for him so we just did more lessons each day. He finished 1A and 1B before Christmas. We are now half way thru 2A. Even though a lot of it was easy I a...

Re: Tell me about science in Adv...
We have really enjoyed the science in Adventures. My ds is very into science and has been very happy with all of the experiments. He usually gets lots of science stuff for Christmas and birthday so we have just done some of those during some of the weeks. As far as the Usborne book goes, it is busy ...

Re: OT Suggestions for long car ride?
I did a pictures bingo with my two one time (the youngest was 2) I googled picture bingo and found lots of pages. Printed them out and then stuck them into page protectors. I put them all in a notebook and we used cut up bendaroos to mark the items when found so that we could play again and again! I...

Re: Where to start in Singapore?
I started my ds in 1A, he was in private school for kinder and first. I wanted him to get the foundation of Singapore. I am very glad that we did start in 1A. He knew most of it, but it was a different way for him and I feel it helped him understand it more. We finished 1A and 1B in Dec (Aug-Dec). W...

Re: MFW Singapore Math Lesson Plan Booklets
If you get a chance to look at a HIG you might want to browse it. I did not buy it for our first book of Singapore and I felt a little lost so I bought it for the second book and it helped me feel more confident in teaching the singapore way. I did not use it for every lesson or do everything it sai...

Re: I thought it could be more independent
I have a 12yo step-dd here half the time, 5yo, and 3 yo. The 5 and 3 yo don't really prevent us from doing school, but life is just busy! Between cooking 3 meals a day (kids with food allergies), running a home and homeschool, it's just hard to find time to sit for any length of time with every chi...

Re: Adventures
We are doing Adventures this year and my boys are loving it. I think it could work for you. I am not sure how much hands on activities you have done with the History portion this year, but you could do the hands on stuff that MFW includes next year and just add on to what you learned this year. We a...

Re: NOTHING is going how I planned OR expected
I can't give any advice since I only have one in school now! We are loving Adventures though! Just curious if you decided to not do Adventures this year, will you do it next year? Or will you go ahead and do ECC? We are in week 10 of Adventures and my ds has learned so much in just a short time. I w...

Re: Where to start Singapore for my 2nd grader?
I am in the same situation with my son. I ended up not even testing him and just ordering 1a/1b. After looking at the books, I am pretty sure 1a will be very easy for him but I am glad that we are still going with it. One of the reasons I am thankful is because it will give me more of a chance to ge...
