Re: Questions from a distracted mom

Thank you Julie and Tammie. Those are wonderful ideas! :insert rambling as I think and type: We are in American Heritage Girls (love!) and they are currently working on the zoology badge. She loves animals. So apologia zoology mightbe the thing. I can't wait to add the zoo and zoo science classes ba...

Re: Need help condensing RTR

What I would do... perhaps not the most brilliant choice. :-) I would keep them doing their math and reading everyday. Reading and discussing good literature and classics just covers over a multitude of gaps. If you can't find the time to do great read alouds, then simplify their reading with good b...

If you like to finish in late May/Early June.....

....what week are you starting today? We have been having the "Terrible, Horrible, No Good,Very Bad School Year", and I am feeling hopelessly behind. Wish I could give you a hug! We have BTDT. We are starting week 19 of CTG this week - (but we are only doing minimal Bible study + all their independ...

Re: Advice/Help with my 10yo, please

THanks everyone! Lots of great ideas.

Rosetta Stone is up and working again so that is one more thing for her. Yay.

My second grader is also going through CTG, so we do Bible and History together. And I agree with Crystal's comments about doing those together. I enjoy reading all that to them.

Re: Advice/Help with my 10yo, please

Thank you everyone! Cyndi - she is very athletic already. Is on team with gymnastics and plays soccer part of the year. Music - I hope to add this in if we are blessed with the house we are trying to buy. That should round out education for us. Rosetta Stone - fixed that last night. Yay! And today s...

Re: Art Confession

This is my first year of really enjoying art. One thing that helped me get over the "blah" factor was the quote in the curriculum (God and the History of Art) from Degas, "Draw lines, young man, a great many lines." Something about that quote just made everything click for me.

She knits using the looms (is knitting matching doll hats and scarves to sell for Christmas cash right now) and does cross-stitch once in a while. We are *praying* and hoping to buy a larger house SOON. I will have room to unpack my sewing machine. My girls will be so excited! If that happens, recom...

Re: CTG question

My dd now just takes the TM and makes her own list of things to do. She is a very early riser and usually has much of her work done before I'm up and ready for the day. Then when I'm ready to start school with ds (also doing CTG) we all go through Bible and History together, then I let her lead him ...

Week 7 here.
We loved the first feast, but have skipped the next two because we were going out of town or had a birthday, etc...
We will be going through CTG again, so we will have another chance to go through the feasts as a family. :)

Other than that he fulfills his roll as an awesome husband and dad.
All the formal schooling is on me.

Re: Schedules for ctg and K???

Lots of great links. We are doing CTG and K right now. Our schedule is to start with CTG and complete Bible and History. The I set the CTG children up with math and other independent work while I do all of K with my little one. After K, we have a snack and finish up CTG. So, ideally, we start CTG by...

I'm still using my Motivated Moms planner for short-hand lesson/daily plans/etc. It's my friendly daily docket, so to speak. Then for record keeping, I also copy the TM grid and add my checkmarks and short notes to that. (I will not be selling any of my teacher's manuals that I have used this way.) ...

I am one who took a year off of MFW and came back with more appreciation than before. So wish I hadn't skipped MFW with my daughter that year. We did do Adventures with her, but my next two will be skipping it as they jump into the 5 year cycle with my oldest.

I was hoping to come here and find some visual aids (I'm a visual learner) for the dry-erase board schedule that the Hazell's use and that I heard Mr. Hazell reference in some of his conference lectures. My kids like to watch videos from Al Kavado and then try new tricks. Warning: The videos are fun and clean, although Al and his brother do have tattoos and are usually shirtless.
