Re: Wk 8 completed - Family job stresses

Annaz and Cyndi, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It has been a rough week but I do know that God will see us through this. I actually made it through the day yesterday without spending most of it crying. We do have some difficult decisions to make but believing God to show us the right path...

Re: Struggling with what to do with 1st grader

Is it the writing that she doesn't like doing? When my ds was going through MFW 1st he balked at the writing big time. I don't even remember where I shared about it but what every board it was &) one recommendation was that I have him tell me what to write but I do the writing. I started doing that ...

Re: For those of you who are in the early weeks of a MFW Yea

We are in wk 6 of ECC. We do school year around but stop sc. and hist./geog. at the end of May and start it up again around the middle of Aug. I try to have our Math and LA at a good stopping point by the first to middle of July and we take 4-6 wks totally off. I simply plan to start up again in Aug...

Veteran MFW moms, I have a question ~

I am an avid book collector. My favorite thing to do is go to Half-Priced Books and look for great books to build our home library. One thing I have noticed about the curriculum package in the 5-year cycle is: Where is Heidi, The Chronicles of Narnia, Caddie Woodlawn, Five Little Peppers, Anne of G...

ECC Week 5 complete and smiling!

We completed week 5 of ECC. It was such a wild week for our family full of appointments and repair man. By yesterday evening I was exhausted in every area and yet we were able to complete the week of school. It is so amazing to me that this is so easy and yet I feel like it is complete and the kids ...

Re: Having a hard time knowing if MFW is still for us?

Thank you for your replies. Also, I have another question. My 1st grader cannot sit still and has a shorter attention span. I am finding that reading the bible stories to her from the teacher's guide is not working. I've been trying to summarize as quickly as possible and just get to her reading he...

Re: Not really liking Writing Strand

Thanks for all the resources. Lots of great ideas and information to sort through. I guess now the teacher has homework to do! :) I understand. That was my biggest hurdle to overcome. I realized when my oldest was in 4th grade, that I needed to take an "in service weekend" and learn. small bites at...

Re: Book Basket?

We are doing ECC not Adv. but our library rarely has any of the recommended books for bb. I go through and purchase used from Amazon * books if affordable, generally 1-2 for each area and then I just fill in with books that are in the library on that subject. Studying countries it has been pretty ea...

Starting to believe I might be able to like Writing Strands'

You guys have been great! I am going to print this whole thread and re read, underline, highlight, etc. Thanks for all the encouragement. Crystal, you said that the copywork/dictation was a big part. One of the problems is I have not been doing MFW, and have not been doing copywork/dictation with ei...

Re: Not really liking Writing Strand

Thanks, EVERYONE. I think I will simply let it go this week and try to get a handle on it all over the week end. I think I am a bit stressed with all that has been happening and maybe it is catching up with me. I am really going to try to relax with it and give it another go around. Ok, I am off to ...

Yes, the grid schedule is wonderful! and I have loved the lesson plans, and love love love the structure with freedom it brings. they don't control me or make me conform to something. I'm me. Re: Should I start with ECC?

The other ladies are right in if you truly feel lead to do CtG then that is what you should do. That is what I planned on doing because I felt we had done enough geography and my oldest is in 5th grade. My thinking was I would skip ECC and she would get through the other 4 programs before she reache...

Re: Frustrated with spelling

Thanks everyone for chiming in on this issue. I don't think I'm going to change curricula at this time, maybe I will look into something different for next year. However, I will invest a bit more time at looking into the teacher's manual of SP more thoroughly. That, in itself, is a bit daunting. I ...

Re: Question for those of you who purchase book basket books

We have a beautiful library in our town but....... well........they seldom have Christian literature. If it is a classic they will generally have it but not always. I did purchase 1-2 for book basked for each 2 wk section of ECC. They were all used from either Amazon or Better World Books. I don't t...

Re: Another ECC ? - re: Vocabulary

So glad ECC is going great for you. We just finished wk 2 and are loving it. I made a 'blank book'. I made up a page that had a place for date, voc. wd, and def. on the top not quite 1/2. I put line in so my kiddos would have that guide. I left the bottom for their picture. I have a binder so I made...

Moment by moment with ECC!

ECC Wk 2 complete! We have completed wk 2. Today we did the Jn 3:16 poster, at last and made it a Jn 3:16-17 poster as this week we memorized v.17. I am liking this material more every day. We have had our hitches but nothing that hasn't been overcome. :-) I haven't read Kindgom Tales to the kids a...

Re: ECC - finally finished "Nate Saint"

I can totally relate! I can tell you that, as an adult, every time I watched one of the documentaries and when I finished the read aloud I cried my eyes out. The kids just did their standard roll of the eyes and said, “M-o-o-o-m!” Their version of, “Come on Mom, pull it together.” I just had to chu...

I read 'God Speaks Numanggang' and I cried......and cried.....and cried. I have known these facts for years but for some reason this book really touched me. I have a new commitment to purchase from MFW directly. I may not always be able to do this but knowing that a portion of the proceeds are going...

UB Living World Encyclopedia

Is this one of the books that MFW has had reprinted for them taking out evolution? yes. (that's the book in ECC, right?) order it from MFW for that edition. I just wanted a second copy and looking through I realized that there really was NO evolution at all. Knowing it is UB I questioned as I know ...

Thanks, Lucy. This sounds like something that I might try with the Eng. from the roots up. I am in the process of making a book for the voc from Geo. A-Z. They will have plenty of room to draw a picture and I think they will totally enjoy that.

My dd love her AG dolls. That has been her Christmas twice now and this year she will get a third doll. No we are not rich, ;) and this year was especially difficult but that was all she wanted, she is 11 and I figure her doll days are probably very numbered. :( I will say that the AM dolls are very...

Re: Order of MFW History?

I think that one of the things that might be a good reason is there is sometimes subject matter in Ancient history that is better left until the child is just a bit older. We are starting CtG after Christmas Vac. and my two will be 10 and 11. I wouldn't have wanted to do a study of ancient history a...
