Re: large family homeschool how to's ?

Shhh... don't tell anyone, but my 12 y.o. does most of her work independantly ;) . I meet with her each day for about a 30 min. - an hour and go over the things she needs an adult for (spelling, tests, etc.). I make sure to discuss bible with her too. She wanted to move ahead and I couldn't see hold...

I don't know if it's okay to post this here, but I'm so excited! JC Penny online has a world map shower curtain on clearance for just over $7 with their clearance coupon code (EXTRA30). If you ship it to your store using the code shipping is free. I already ordered one. Carrie Thanks for posting thi...

Re: spelling power

We like the sheets printed from the cd. Especially the 10 step study sheet. It reminds them to do each step for each word.

Re: White Board or Chalk Board or None at all?

You could also buy frame and chalk board paint, paint the inside glass, then add the Chalk Ink and voila!!!...a cute, trendy chalk board in your dining room! I've been looking for a large ugly picture so I can replace the picture with fabric and use the glass as a white board for our schedule. I ne...

Re: Feeling totally discouraged.

Melissa, (((hugs))) I don't know if this helps, but I felt this way this Fall. We had purchased CTG and I ended up not using it, because I just couldn't handle it. I was pregnant with our 4th child and having a hard time. We did Math and LA as written, but we did history and science via book basket....

Re: Post Secondary Enrollment Options

Thanks Julie and Crystal! Yes, there are other options for classes (math, etc.). I was just looking at the history/geography portion. I had this crazy thought that maybe we should do Ex-1850 and 1850-Mod the next 2 years, even though we've already purchased CTG :~ . You're right, I probably shouldn'...

Re: Post Secondary Enrollment Options

Chystal- Yes, Lisa's post was very helpful, because her timing is very similar to ours. We really would like to take advantage of as many free classes as possible. My dd doesn't plan (so far anyway...) of attending college other than this. I wonder if there is anyway to do the 11th-12th grade conten...

Re: Post Secondary Enrollment Options

Yes Julie, we're in MN. You and I are practically neighbors ;) ! My daughter and I are drooling over Northwestern's online (how cool is that? :-) ) PSEO. We've only done ECC and will complete CTG and RTR before high school. Then she'll do Ancient History and World History. These are the history and ...

Re: need additional help with multiplication tables

We have fought with this at our house too. We were able to get Times Tales from our library and that helped some. I see they have a dvd and we're excited to try it with our next child. We have also used an on-line game called Times Attack. Right now we're using The Complete Book of Math Timed Tests....

Re: Character Training When Missing K?

Thanks Millie! I think it will work for us this Summer. Any advice on what I'd need to buy? If I do have to order it all, I have a 2 year old that would use it in a few years.

Any idea how I could get my 5th grader involved too? Maybe she could read the stories to him?

Thanks so much!

Anyone make Lefse (Week 19 RTR)?

Okay, reading the directions... Do you mash the potatoes in the water you boiled them in (sorry, I don't make mashed potatoes that way) and then start adding flour? Seems to me that's how you should, but I'm not sure. Thanks, Trish No, you drain the water. My very Norwegian mom says you make mashed...
