Re: Anyone memorize the entire book of James?
I had 3 students when we did it. I think they were 13, 11, and 9. The 13 and 11 year old did it VERY well. And the 9 year old did it pretty well, although I didn't require perfection from him by any means. But he became very familiar with James, which I think is the point, not just memorizing it. :)...

Academics - Do we slow down if child is struggling?
Kindergarten to hard for my 6 year old Hi all! For starters I was a teacher for many years before having kids. Then I became a stay at home mom and now I have home-schooled all 3 of our kids from the very beginning. The problem is our youngest who is 6 years old. He is having a hard time with the k...

Re: Switching from Sonlight?
Hi, welcome to MFW! You will LOVE it I'm sure. We switched from Sonlight too. If you bought directly from them they have a VERY generous return policy. I returned an entire core to them with no problems at all when we switched to MFW. (This was years ago...) You might want to look into that. Anyway,...

Re: 1850MOD--SOTW Activity Book--Managing the size of it
I should have come here yesterday. I ended up ripping out the student sheets and timeline figures. Made 2 sets of copies on our old laser copier, 1 set of the figures. So now I have a master set for the next time I teach 1850MOD. Then I was left with this weird book. So I used a box cutter (razor bl...

Hi, I thought I posted a "Thank You" to both of you yesterday, but don't see it! Anyway - thank you so much! I'll tell her about the infinitive verb. And thank you for pointing me towards those resources mentioned.

Drawing with Children art supplies
Do you have any favorites? I have this book already and looked through it. Seems they want us to use fairly expensive supplies. I see the benefit in that, but can it be done a little more cheaply without ruining the art? What are your must haves in regards to art supplies to be used in this book? J...

Re: Help! Homeschooling with a toddler
We are going to do a lot of school during my 2 y.o.'s nap this year! He used to take a morning nap, but now only takes an afternoon nap. We'll see how this goes. I'll be doing K when he is up in the morning, however. I'm planning on using some of the older kids to help with him and the 4 yo during t...

My ds, on the other hand, still struggles with reading but has an amazing memory when it comes to being read to or when an activity or movie or any other multisensory activity is involved. Definitely don't leave out the multisensory activities! My DS is like that! He can recite an entire movie, it ...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, he has two older sisters, 7th and 8th grade who will be doing Exp-1850 with him. I'm thinking that I'll still do the supplement with him.

My plan was to be able to do school 4 days a week during the school year so my dd could do nature classes. So the idea was to do the classes one morning, 1 exploration day and 3 days of regular school a week. I really want to do the nature walks and science journals, and I know my dd who is really ...

Ordering extras for more than one student - question
I have 4 school-aged children. I will be doing 1st, and ECC this year. When looking at ECC - some items say "purchase one per additional student" and it also says "purchase one for extra students in 3rd-8th". Do I want the passport, the Flag Sticker book, passport and the Student Sheets for my 1st ...

Re: Do your kids like Kingdom Tales in ECC?
I remember it took our kids a bit of time to get used to it. By the end, they were sad when it was done. It took a while for my DH and I to read it correctly, too, if that makes sense. Varying our voices, putting emphasis on the right words, things like that to make it more interesting. I also remem...

The Body Book Woes for RTR
We're new here and I am enjoying the TM for RTR! It looks like tons of fun! As I prepare for our new year, The Body Book is trying to get the best of me ;) . I'm almost half done copying on cardstock for multiple children (4 dc) and have begun cutting...this is after I decided to rip the book apart...

What size binders are needed for RTR? It looks like I need a history binder and a general binder but I don't see the size. I am probably overlooking it in my excitement! I can't wait to get started! Hi, I've always wondered what size is recommended too. It's not in the TM as far as I can tell. We u...

Any words of wisdom or plans for how to condense/reduce would be greatly appreciated..... Hi, Rebecca! Re: Only 5 more weeks of RTR, can we stop now?
Thank you! The principal decided that we would finish, but we would try to teach 2 days of lessons per day. He is going to read our extra history/Bible in the evenings at Read Aloud time. We're done with all the Read Alouds anyway. :) We tried this last night and it was successful. History is so muc...

Re: Apologia Gen Sci Question? Experiment 6.1
Ah, we will give it a few more days then, (we only used two tablespoons) and then stopped because the water was cloudy. We'll try Borax if that doesn't produce any crystals.
Thank you for the tips. We are moving on with the other experiments!

My oldest has a weird grip, too and I was never successful at getting her to change it. (She tilts the pencil forward.) She CAN write with the proper grip, but complains it is uncomfortable. She's 13, so I've decided to stop griping at her about it. :) She's doing just fine. I notice that her finger...

Just wanted to chime in. :) When you are ready to do Kindy...use MFW! I'm doing it with my 4th child. She just turned 5. We LOVE it. So easy to teach, geared just to where my daugher is at right now. And my DD WANTS to sit down and do school like all her older siblings. It's really up to you when to...

I just thought I'd "add" (ha,ha): I used Horizon's Math for my older girls when they started out. It was a pretty frustrating experience for all of us. (All the repititious worksheets!) I ended up using Teaching Textbooks just to give us all a break. That is working out for them now. My point here, ...

Thanks, Dee. I let her look at the PP website and she wants to do The Indian in the Cupboard. So I'm going to order that set for her instead of the Eagle of the Ninth.

Seriously considering changing curriculum - q's!
My 5yo (girl) can read three letter words, loves learning, workbooks, "school time" of any kind, loves, loves, loves working hard. She is so sweet! Is the K curriculum going to be to slow and boring for her? I wouldn't say she is advanced. I am not sure who I'd be comparing her to for that, but I k...
