Re: Canadians doing RTR?

I just wanted to chime in to say that I am starting MFW K for the first time this fall and live in PEI. I will certainly be looking for help along the way to adapt MFW for Canadians! Thanks in advance for all tips and suggestions and simply sharing your experiences!

Re: MFWK with an almost 6yo reader

Just wanted to say that I have enjoyed this thread. Our eldest will be 5y6m the Septemeber she will begin MFWK (2013). Now, at 3y6m, it is too early to tell, but she already has a lot of phonics understood. Regardless, I *will* wait begin, instead of doing MFWK when she is 4y6m. I just have to keep ...

Re: Gym class

Instead of a structured Gym class, we (with a preschooler, but intend to do the same as our girls grow up) simply ensure a lot of physical activity throughout each day: at the park, climbing, running games, hopping, skipping, biking, taking stairs instead of escalators/elevators, talking about being...

Re: Preschool box ideas

Great thread!

I hope it goes without saying, but the MFW Preschool and PreK packs are awesome! My 3yo dd loves all the Lauri materials and that makes me love them even more!

Have FUN!

Re: Preschooler's "big school" comments

Wow, your replies have made for such a great read. I will certainly take most suggestions to heart. I definitely agree that at her young age, it's simply about the actual bus ride and not all that it entails (early mornings, big classes, away from us, etc.). We already do A LOT of "field trips" - I ...

Re: Preschooler's "big school" comments

A BIG thank you for the replies thus far. Great ideas! We live in a very rural area - the entire province of Prince Edward Island has less than 150,000 people and the closest "city" is home to about 14,000 people - so we don't have any city buses near-by to experiment with. Charlottetown, the capita...

Re: A Formal Canadian Introduction

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Montreal but have now been living on the east coast, on Prince Edward Island since 99. I am definitely interested in supplementing/adding Canadian material into the MFW curriculum. Our oldest is 3yrs old, so we will only be beginning K in the spring/fall of 20...

Re: PreK activites?

Thank you, Julie, for your insight and perspective. I love your suggestions and ideas for incorporating life learning throughout each day. We certainly already do that to some extent, but you are really making me think. What a blessing. I am so grateful that God led me to this forum and this communi...

Re: Canadian

Thanks for the suggestions, Harvestmom! Welcome to posting on the board! I will certainly look into those titles you mentioned. We are certainly not at that point of our curriculum - dd is just turning 3 this month, but as I have been learning more and more about MFW and want to make a long-term com...

Re: How do you run your home?

I really appreciate this thread too - mostly due to the fact that it is a challenge for me! I am still teaching College ECE full-time now (will be off on maternity in about 8 weeks and then home for good - YAY), so running this home is not easy for me right now, mostly because we are always SO much ...

Re: Start MFW 1 now???

I personally love the message board and am so attracted to MFW just because of the fact that we have this forum to learn and share with one another. I think it's fantastic that "we" (haha, funny how I consider myself part of the "we" after just a week or so - amazing, isn't it?!) are all so passiona...

Re: Start MFW 1 now???

I have been reading all the posts in this subject SO intently - for those of you who posted in my recent Preschool Activities subject, you know that I have been contemplating appropriate preschool activities for my 3yo and wondering when to start MFWK. After my Preschool Activities "conversations", ...

Re: PreK activites?

I appreciate your comments. Clara's fine motor skills are already quite refined - she is always wanting to colour, draw; she manipulates scissors well, holds writing utensils and paintbrushes well, etc. Without our suggestions, she consistently uses her right hand. I ordered the MFWPreK a couple of ...

Re: PreK activites?

Thanks Jen - not only am I new to MFW, I am obviously new to homeschooling all together, since Clara is our eldest at 3 years old - so, I am learning lots these days! I am not familiar with the Rod & Staff books and will definitely look into them. Has anyone had any experience combing the MFW Lauri ...
