MFW 1st and Active Children and CB Math

Hoping to hear from those of you who have used MFW 1st Grade... How suitable is it for wiggly ones? The math looks great but I am curious about the Complete Book of Math. It has 300+ pages, correct? Does the child complete all of these? My ds6 detests worksheets so I was wondering if Math-U-See or ...

Re: Continuing Phonics/Reading after 1st grade

My daughter really struggled with the phonics in grade 1. We are nearing the end of grade 2, and this is what we are have been doing. In the summer following grade 1, we started All About Reading and All About Spelling together. They complement each other. The repetition really helped my daughter. W...

Re: Opinions on my first grader's writing

I was going to get my daughter tested for dyslexia. I was able to talk to someone who does assessments and he gave me some great advice. He told me that with every child, their brain develops at different rates and sometimes the right and left side of the brain do not work too well. He suggested I w...

Re: 1st & 2nd Grade Writing?

Thank you so much, it's great to know that I'm stressing for no reason. Great to know that what I'm doing is what I need to be doing. Sometimes we want to speed up the process have your child there already. I will continue to take little steps to help her narration skills.

Re: Sort of OT...but about curriculum

Thank you so much to everyone who posted! Trish - funny that you mention repetition. I feel that is all I am doing...but I don't always feel like I am getting anywhere. Our convention is later this month so I am going to look into All About Spelling and All About Reading. I might also check out Exp...

Re: 1st grade math

Thank you for your advice. We have been doing lots of hands on activities, and she is loving math again. She is even enjoying worksheets in the CBOM, and she normally does not like worksheets. But we have changed things to mostly hands on activities and she is loving it and learning lots.

Re: 1st grade math

Thanks for the advice. I do think I put too much pressure on my dd this fall when I switched. She is very creative and would make up her own math games with the math bags. I asked her this evening why she is not enjoying math as much any more. And she said she finds the math problems boring and want...

Re: 1st just isn't working for us :( need advise

My daughter has also been struggling with readin this year. In October we took a break and used All About Spelling and 100 ez lessons. They really helped, we did that for a while and then started back with MFW grade 1. You might not need to do something different, but my daughter could not go on and...
