Re: # 4 - Apple

Here's a cute variation on the hand tree: http://craftproverbs31life.blogspot.com/2011/09/fall-tree-pillow-with-tp-roll-leaves.html You could probably shape the TP tubes into apple shapes, or use a small apple even, to stamp apples onto the tree :) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aDvBeL2WEb0/Tmr3D6Hw7kI/A...

Re: My Father's World-K -- Share Your Experiences

I am so glad we chose MFWK!! Yes, I could have done all this myself and put a curriculum together myself, but having the curriculum already there makes my life so much easier. There is a security in knowing that it's been tried and tested and that there is a community of others doing the same things...

What we've been up to! (MFWK)

So here's what we've been up to: http://thecatinthetree.blogspot.com/search/label/kindergarten I LOVE the oreo moonphases - why didn't I think of that! We are finishin...

Tactile letter idea

Just saw this great idea in Family Fun- I thought it would work well for drawing letters: Cut various lengths of yarn and then let your child 'draw' with it on 40-grit sandpaper. The yarn is moveable and can be repositioned, while the roughness of the sandpaper keeps the yarn in place. They also sug...

Kaiakai...you have me wanting to delve into some books and movies I had not seen....I love learning! I'm not sure if I'm homeschooling for my kids or because I enjoy constantly learning myself!! You guys have a good night...drank my coffee too late again and I'm going to be struggling to get ready ...

Re: Laminating Machine? Yes? No? Maybe?

I purchased this one about a week ago, already laminated all of our MFWK materials (the included sheets were enough to do all the short vowel game pieces, ABC chart, all the flash cards, badges, the blend ladder, and I also ended up doing the 100 chart. ) [Scotch Thermal Laminator Combo Pack, Includ...

Sure does. I am feeling quite dizzy at the moment. What you said about not being a scientist and having difficulty in figuring out if science is right is exactly how I feel as well.

Re: Creation... dinosaurs...YE/OE... MFWK

Crystal- Yes, she is only 4. This thread is more for me & figuring my own beliefs than it was about her :) Like I said, I'm just trying to figure out what to say to her as we approach subjects that I used to think I knew at least *something* about. I do want to keep an open (yet discerning) mind and...

Re: Creation... dinosaurs...YE/OE... MFWK

When I read things like this: Creation Museum - A Preliminary Review By Greg Neyman © Old Earth Ministries I am not sure what is true. I was also reading Case for A Creator , then looked online and found a ton of stuff discrediting Strobel. I was looking at reviews of the Fallacy Detective a few mon...

I like the idea of taping pennies to the 100 chart!! I think I will laminate it after all!

Skip counting is a great idea, too..

Re: We skipped the trash sorting worksheet (ECC wk 22)

Well, I'm not sure if this will help, but it might be an interesting addition to the project: The Show Us Your Plastic Trash Challenge.

But I'm wondering.. if you recycle and compost, then why would your trash be so gross??

I just stumbled on this.. solar hot air balloons made out of trash bags!

Might be a little advanced, but must be fun for the little ones to watch a huge balloon rise up in the air!

Re: My greatest fear & pet peeve: "I CAN'T!"

Parenting can be “heart” work, yes? oh, yes. I'm trying more and more to focus on and reveal the heart issue when things like this come up... In terms of the noodle incident, I would have simply said “oh ok...” and ended the conversation at that point and done something else. Maybe a quick hug if n...

Re: My greatest fear & pet peeve: "I CAN'T!"

Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding the scripture verse, we actually have a couple of stories that explain it and I have talked about it with her so I don't think it is that abstract. For a while she told me that she doesn't like to ask God for help ( I think we have gotten past that somewhat) It ...

Re: Any suggestions for a Bible curriculum for pre-k/K

The Jesus Storybook Bible was my daughter's "FAVORITE book" for a long time.

We also love Susan Hunt's ABC Verses.

Big Truths for Little Kids (Susan Hunt) is another good one. Kiira still likes the stories, but gets tired of "answering the questions".

I might not be qualified to answer this, since I haven't used either, yet, but I have recently spent a number of hours reading forums and reviews on both and comparing both. I'm not sure HOW much reading there actually is with SL. I keep hearing that it is A LOT, but we do love reading here. We also...
