Re: #23 - Fox

For Day 5 we didn't have any magazines with animals, so I went to the blog 1+1+1=1 and printed off some of her Montessori Animal Cards from the Nomenclature and Matching sets and laminated them. Now we have plenty of animals to categorize--I made paper bags with habitats (ocean/Water, Land, and air)...

Re: Math...why is it so weak in MFW-K and 1st?

Thanks for all the advice/tips and opinions thus far! Perhaps many of us just starting with Kindergarten "math" forget that they are more about learning concepts then numbers! Yes, we are doing the "how many is 100" we count by 5's, 10's...guess what comes next, what we did the day before. We do our...

MFW-K- Number Cards

So I was blog hopping the MFW Blog Roll back in August and I stumbled across someone who had made their own Number Cards to be used with the MFW-K program. They are super cute with a flower, grass and sky with the number. They have it as a free printable on their blog. I only printed off the first ...

Re: How do you start your day??

We always start our school day with prayer and our scripture for the week. We talk about what the scripture means and how we can apply it to our lives. It just makes my heart happy when I hear him quoting our memory scriptures randomly--he likes to say "my mouth just can't keep it inside! I HAVE to ...

Re: # 4 - Apple

I'm happy to say that we are going to be visiting an apple orchard with our Co-Op the very week we are scheduled to to Aa Apple! how is THAT for timing! I think visiting an orchard is a great way to really sink in the process of growing apples and bearing fruit.

Re: question about kindergarten calenders and 100 chart

We have JUST gotten to the point of Little Britches "knowing" that 1 bundle of "ten" actually has ten in it...and that if you add that to a bundle of 5 you now have 15...but he has the hang of it now and is starting to be able to pick up counting wherever the bundles leave us!

Re: MFW-K--short vowels only?

Thank you! i will just let it go and enjoy a slower approach to phonics! My son is good about asking questions, so I'm sure he'll mention something later on about why the vowels make different sounds...

Re: OT- student desks?

We were blessed with desks (the one piece kind) from a school being demolished. We have 2 kids right now, but are planning (God Willing) on 3...so my hubby snagged 3 desks. My oldest (kindergarten) ADORES his desk and willingly sits in it every day! The room we have right now could feasibly hold 2 o...

Planet Earth Movies???

I was thinking I saw somewhere that people where watching Planet Earth movies with ECC. We are only on Adventures but my kids love stuff like that so I was looking in to getting them. If we can use them for school next year that will just add to it :) I went to Amazon and there are more different s...

Re: Need some encouragement. My child is not enjoying school

I agree with Carin! I too am a piano teacher and I will NOT take any students in Kindergarten! They just don't have the discipline yet of merely sitting in ONE PLACE for longer then maybe 10-15 minutes...even when their parents SWEAR they are ready...I've found it NOT be the case. I prefer students ...

Re: Laminating Machine? Yes? No? Maybe?

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to Costco on the 15th, so I'll look for one there. I've heard there is one at Wal*Mart too...but it doesn't come with the films. It would be nice to get one for about $30 with the films included...but Amazon IS a great place to get the films. Since I have a Kindergar...

Re: How do you keep up on school and house work??

LOL! I have been asking this very same question!!! I have a hard enough time NOW keeping my house clean while chasing a newly walking 1 year old and a rambunctious 5 year old! We (hubby and I) have decided it's time to increase the chores for the 5 year old. I taught him how to do basic folding of h...

Re: New Badges in Kindergarden

What a great idea to use the pocket charts! I need to get one!

My hubby snagged me a nice full size corkboard that we are hanging on the wall this weekend...that would be wonderful to have on it!
