Re: Second guessing preschool choice

I was in your position last year! I ended up choosing MFW Pre-K + Rod & Staff preschool books + an excellent craft book for my older 4yo. I chose MFW 1st for my older 6yo. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen MFW K and Adventures. It just would have worked better for them. My older 4yo (now 5) was read...

Re: Go ahead with MFW K?

Great advice ladies! I think you are right, that the Lord just might be gently nudging me about this particular child. He is READY & BEGGING. Could actually be in K this year if in PS. Glad to hear the K activities are pretty easy, and that K & Adv are doable with a preschooler and infant in tow! I ...

Re: First Grade Math Help

My DS loves CBOM too! If you do finish early, I personally think that Singapore Math is still hands-on. Have you seen all the manipulatives they recommend with each course on their website?! I always want to buy them all! I like how MFW helps you make your own though (like bean sticks for base 10 ma...

Re: Here's our plan! PK - 1st

Thank you so much for your thoughts! I greatly appreciate it :). It is great to hear of your success with waiting on K. I think it is what we should do as well (even though he could handle it now), but I am a big doubter so I am grateful for the reassurance! We will definitely have fun this year. En...

Re: Having 2nd thoughts.

Julie-Thanks for sharing! :) I was all set on MFW1 for the longest time for this upcoming school year, and then I started looking at other things and started to question myself (or just wanting to do everything!). I am strongly leaning towards MFW right now. As you (Julie) mentioned, age-appropriate...

Re: Having 2nd thoughts.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful/helpful questions. I am pondering the answers. I think I just have 2 great plans and can't really let go of either one of them. Hoping to hear from God! If I can quiet myself for long enough...

Re: PreK or K?

Thanks for your reply! I think you are right that him participating in 1st + the preK games and a workbook will probably be the perfect option :D. Such a tough decision sometimes! However, I will probably stay in the "better late than early" camp. Oh and the fact that Adventures and K go great toget...

Re: Customizing YOUR School Year!

Great post! I can relate. I love the 3 points you listed! Age appropriateness is so important to me and MFW is so good at that! Too much pressure at young ages these days. We can't wait to start MFW in the fall. I also regret listening to advice about piecing it together myself. Finally doing what I...

Re: Is this too much?

Honestly, I would keep it simple. I am planning on starting with MFW recommendations and that's it (oh and the enrichment items!!). You can always add in later, but I would probably give it a good while before doing that. I agree that less really is more. Just take full advantage of the curriculum :).

Re: ADV or ECC with oldest child in 1st grade?

Taita ~ How exciting! I think you made a great choice. For many good reasons, we'll be doing MFW 1st this upcoming school year as well. He will be 6-3/4 yrs when we start. He is very bright but I plan on taking full advantage of the curriculum. I think it will be perfect and we can't wait! Have fun!

Re: What level do kids typically place in 2nd grade singapor

I think I remember reading somewhere that many kids easily place into Singapore 2A after MFW's 1st grade math. I'm new here though :P . I wouldn't worry about holding him back though, like you said they pick up so much in real life. Math is everywhere! My oldest is that way, always teaching himself ...

Re: using MFW Kindergarten for mature 4 year old?

Hi! I was excited to read your post as we are in a similar situation. I am starting MFW 1st grade with my oldest in the fall and I was (sometimes still am!) debating between the 3-5yr preschool package or MFW K for my middle child. He will be 4.75yrs at the start of the school year. He also can't wa...

Shawna, Thank you! Don't worry, my memory isn't so great either! :-) I found your reply to be very helpful though! Erna, I've looked at those Rod & Staff preschool books and I think those will be perfect!! Thank you for the reminder. I'll get those for him, along with MFW Pre-K. He loves to "do scho...

Order extra 1st grade student sheets for younger child?

Hi all,
We are planning on starting Pre-K and 1st grade in the fall. I was wondering if I should purchase extra 1st grade student sheets for my Pre-K child. Or is the recommendation to purchase extra student sheets for the youngers more for when you start the family cycle? Thanks!

Re: Regret that I didn't choose MFW K

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the helpful responses. I don't know why I had the "start 1st grade in January" idea. I really don't think he'd be ready for that. So I guess that answers that question! I think I just wanted to switch to MFW as soon as possible - haha! There is just something...

Re: Help With Placement Please

Thanks everyone! I think I am getting stuck on the idea that MFW K is "for a 5-year-old" but he will be 5-3/4 when we start MFW K (Sept. 2013), which is ALMOST 6. At this age 3/4 of a year can make a big difference... so is 5-3/4 too old for the program? I just don't know if I should think of him as...
