Family devotional
Hello! I haven't posted on here in a while, but I am having a tough time finding what I am looking for. We have done family devotions in the past and I especially try to do them in the summer when we aren't doing Bible in school, AWANAS, etc. BUT, I really would like to have devotional that has a st...

Hymns
Just a random thought.... It would be really nice to have the lyrics for the hymns as part of the student sheets. I love that we have covered these beautiful songs over the past 2 years but I wish I could give each of the kids the words to look at. They'll often crowd around the book to look togethe...

Re: Movie recommendations for WWII?
Thanks Julie! I saw Monuments Men...thanks for the reminder...that was a good one! Selfishly, thanks for the info on Hacksaw Ridge. I want to see that one and wasn't sure about it. I think I will watch it (not as a family movie night ;) ) and just be prepared for the violence...maybe with my 13 yr o...

Movie recommendations for WWII?
I wanted to have my kids watch a movie to add to all we are learning about WWII. Any recommendations? I know of Schindlers List...but sadly I haven't seen it myself. I am not sure if it would be ok to watch with a 10 year old. Another one that came to mind was U-571 which I watch when it first came ...

Re: Need help with Progeny Press and more for 7th grader
Thank you so much for your replies. It gives me a lot to go on. My poor first kid...I tend to over do it on the expectation level. I will back off on the kind of writing I expected in the progeny press and go through the answers with him...maybe orally. Thanks laying out the goals Julie. Read the bo...

Need help with Progeny Press and more for 7th grader
Hello! This year is proving to be a quite an adjustment for my ds (7th grade) and I. Dare I say, it hasn't been easy...With a toddler and 2 others that I am teaching I was ready for him to be more independent with his learning. Specifically, how are we to use the Progeny Press books? My son does not...

Thanks for the advice Tricia! I will check out that website tonight. I think he really needs a teacher and I don't know that I can swing it.
Thanks again!

Re: Not a crafty mom, need advice on CTG
Hello! I have found that I am a crafty mom, but not organized! :-) I wanted to jump on just to encourage you that CTG is a great year. It is worth the effort. But, honestly, we didn't do the feasts here. I wanted to (desperately) but our lives were just at a point where I couldn't pull them off. Tha...

Re: Struggling with Applications of Grammar and praise for Mfw
Just a follow up my last post...the testing did not go well for my ds but partially because I missed that I was supposed to be giving a test every 5 lessons or so. I thought the book would prompt you but I didn't see it if it did. Anyways, I was through the first unit completely before we did any te...

What is the memorization project in wk3 of 1850-MOD
The teachers manual gives an optional Memorization Project from SOW on Thursday in wk 3. I can't find what it is in the notes or SOW activity book? Did anyone else do this? Lol! I found it...it was in the next square down on the grid under SOW Activity book. Its one of those days ;) LOL, glad you f...

Re: Struggling with Applications of Grammar and praise for Mfw
I am struggling with Applications as well. My 13 year old and I just finished lesson 3 together...we've been doing the lessons together...I am finding that even after reading the lessons, I am not sure of the answers! Right now I sit with the answer book on my lap and as he goes through the book I w...

Re: ROAD TRIP- need suggestions
Fun little side note...The Cracker Barrel used to offer audiobooks as well. I haven't checked them out in a while but you can "check" them out at one and returned to another...even in another state (if I remember correctly). Plus you can visit those fun gift shops and get some good food! It's a win-...

Hi Rae! Welcome to MFW! I'll try keep this short since you have some great input already but here's a quick look at our setup. Re: How Do We Grow? -- Minutes with Marie
Hi Marie, Thank you for sharing this video. For me it served as a great encouragement to continue on the right path. In tough seasons, it's easy to feel like you need to be doing something else...I am a fixer and I want to DO something, change something, be something else to effect change a situatio...

Re: How many books?
Thanks for your responses! I agree ruthamelia that the true point is to just make sure they are reading....and my kids are. But last year I had them do a verbal book report (at least) and record the book they read in a log. This year I didn't do that for some reason and now that we are almost done, ...

Re: Singapore Math Home Instructors Guide
Julie is right! You absolutely CAN teach Singapore math. I don't consider myself great at math and have used Singapore with my oldest from the beginning. We are now finishing the last text and I can look back and see it works really well. I was in a similar situation as you....private school was whe...

Sacagawea
When we were reading about Lewis and Clark my kids recognized the name Sacagawea from the Night at the Museum movies. We were fascinated that she helped guide the trip while caring for her 2 month old son whom she carried in a sling on her back. And again my ds happened to have a $1 coin from 2000 t...

Thomas Jefferson
We were reading the president card for Thomas Jefferson and saw that he was pictured on the $2 bill. My son had one that his grandpa gave him and it was really interesting to see! It also had a picture of the signing of the declaration on the back. We made a copy and attached it to the notebook in p...

I really enjoyed reading your praises! I had nixed the preschool program I had bought for my older kids (as I felt it was unnecessary) but now that I have a soon to be 3 yr old (my last little one), I am thinking about spending some "quality" time with him and think this might be a good choice. It s...

Re: ctg with 3rd grader
Hi Grace, When we did CTG, I had a 2nd grader. I can tell you that it didn't affect her view of God at all. When we had discussed the gods that the Greeks served, I explained that they were something that people created to try and explain things on the earth. They didn't know the true God. Similar t...

Enjoying Expl-1850
Hello, I wanted to say how much I love the activities planned in the teachers manual. Since we are a little farther in our homeschooling journey now, the kids will talk about things that we have done in the past, and things they are looking forward to in our current school year. It is so sweet to he...

Re: Singapore math...almost done...boy is it tough
Hi Julie,
Thanks for the tips. Starting tomorrow I am going to make flash cards for concepts to review. I think that'll help a lot since the pace seems to be going very fast.
Monday is a new week! Here we go.....
