Finished Adventures

Just wanted to send a thank you to MFW and those who answered all my questions before and during the year. It was a good year and dd learned so much. We created a very nifty notebook that will be a great reminder of all she learned. Tip : What to do with the timeline when you are done? Use them as a...

Adventure state sheets, disappointing and our fix

Last week we started learning the states but am a little discouraged. 4 sheets to color a week and the info on the back is not 2-3 grade friendly. There is not enough time to really enjoy each state....2 days a state would work better...1 day for coloring the map, flag and locating it on large map: ...

Re: ADV Week 12, including Bird Study

To add to the state study I am having dd trace the outline of each state. We then look up the state on computer and print pictures that relate to the state. She puts the pictures inside the outlined state making a collage.

Re: General Ideas for Adventures

Draw Write Now books have step by step instructions on drawing pictures from American History and more. They are extremely easy to follow and the results are impressive. Dd is using them to add extra pages to her notebook. So far we have found pictures to draw for most of the topics covered in Adve...

We are starting week 12 and the state study in Adventures. I wanted to share a neat map I found on Amazon...it is a sticker map of the US using reusable stickers.

To end the week 6 study of New Amsterdam I had dd draw a picture of a windmill using this site I found with step by step instructions on drawing the windmill.

She then wrote a brief sentence telling what she learned.

What is "notebooking"?

I've read on a few threads ladies discussing adding in "notebooking" when their child needed or wanted more of a certain subject. I understand that it is completely optional but it sounds interesting. Could somebody tell me what is notebooking or how you go about it? What we do for notebooking is: ...

Re: advanced reader and questions for second grade 2nd

My dd is an advanced student and is loving Adventures. I was concerned at first because it looked light after I got my box so I started planning add ons to vamp it up to her level. Long story short, hubby said use it as is. We are and it is working great. I do require her to write her own narrations...

Re: ADV Weeks 4-5

Constellation activity When learning about the stars, I had dd take black construction paper and using a toilet paper tube as a guide, she traced a circle on the construction paper. I cut around the circle giving it an inch extra all around. She then took a pin and poked holes in the circle in the p...

Wigwam help... I found the best way for the wigwam to be pieced together is to use lots of glue. We took each piece of scrap paper and immersed it in glue making the piece flimsy and easy to mold. It took two days for our wigwam to dry, but once it did it was durable and all the scraps were attached...

Re: I can do all things art (with Adventures)

We are enjoying it. My dd and I do it together which I think makes it more enjoyable. As for actual instruction, it does have some drawbacks, some of the lessons are extremely simplistic or complicated without much instruction. Some I am not sure what the purpose of the exercise is for. But even wit...

Adventures: How long?

How long does it take to do Adventures? It takes us about 2-3 hour to do a complete schedule. And how much of that time are you working directly with your child? I spend most of it with her. Our typical day looks like this: Bible, Spelling, Vocabulary...about 20-30 mins 15 min Break Math and Our Hi...

Re: *I can do all things* art

I bought a drawing pad for my dd and one for me. We just draw the lessons right on the drawing pad. It is working fine. I might have to draw a prop or predraw a figure for her to work on but it just takes a moment or two to set the page up. I bought a drawing pad that can be used with wet or dry med...
