Re: Writing for 10th grade?

While researching this, I came across this document from SWB. Would it be better if she did WWS 2 or 3? Or would 1 be sufficient?

Re: Writing for 10th grade?

Thank you so much for the reply. She is in ancients in a different program right now, so she definitely won't be doing that again next year. Oh if I had never left my original MFW plans.... But I digress...I like the idea of Writing With Skill! I am going to be having my 7th grader start it next yea...

Writing for 10th grade?

Talk to me about writing in WHL. I'm struggling trying to decide what to do with my 10th grader next year. She had IEW in 6th grade, 2 years of LTOW in 7th-8th grade, and this year she's in an Honors Writing class at Wilson Hill Academy. I feel like she's still highly lacking on her writing skills. ...

Changes in Exp-1850?

I have an older guide (printed Feb 2013) and I recently heard that MFW suggests WWS now, vs Writing Strands which is suggested in my guide. I like this suggestion better ;) My question is, are there any other changes in the guides that I should be made aware of?

Exp to 1850 daily time?

I am strongly considering coming back to MFW after a few years away. To keep up with the cycle process we're in, we would be in Exp to 1850 next year. It's been a few years since we've done MFW (CTG was our last one...and I didn't truly do it very well that year lol). Anyway, I have a high schooler ...

A few synergy questions...

I'm looking into possibly starting a synergy group for Exp to 1850, but I have a few questions: 1) The info on the website says about 1 1/2-2 hrs. Do you find that to be accurate for this year? 2) Do you find that it truly works for varied ages? Obviously, it works in the home, but does it work in a...

Re: My daughter wants to go to public school... :-(

Ahhhh, I think it's fairly common for homeschooling moms to be introverts. A hugely extrovert person would have a really hard time in this chosen lifestyle. With that being said, I think now is the time to take control and knock down that fear of getting out. Trust me, I get it. I'm an introvert, an...

Lesson Planning

I was wondering if anyone would like to share how they plan lessons. Specifically, I have two in exp-1850, a 7th and 2nd grader. I don't want to write in their spelling, math and other individual subjects on the actual teacher plans from Mfw because I will be using these particular plans 2 more tim...

Questions on where to place 4yo

Any ideas on keeping our 4 year old busy during school time? I know she would love to start K. Could her & her 7 yo sister do K together? Would our 7 yo get too behind if we did that & just started her in CTG with her older sister next year? Can you tell I'm getting stressed? :( We also have a swee...

Speech Question

My youngest (4) still uses babytalk. Uh... I take partial blame. We let it go on too long. She is cute!, and she is my baby... I never 'allowed' the oldest 3 to baby talk. I confess; color me guilty. ;) We have been correcting and instructing her on clear speech for a good 6 months now and she can ...

Re: Butterfly Garden Question

That 's crazy! My sister caught 1 tadpole out of a local river and it grew up to be a frog. Hopped right out of their tupperware container and off the counter...they knew it was time to release him then lol. We actually live about 30 minutes away from Insect Lore's Bugseum. It's a wonderfully cute p...

Re: SO impressed with MFW at convention

I must have visited the mfw "booth" like 10 times during the CHEA (Pasadena) convention. I put quotes around "booth" because it was really like an entire section of the hall. It was laid out so beautifully, with each year being displayed perfectly. The folks working it were helpful and informative, ...

Re: Which Progeny Press lit. guides suggested for 1850 to Mo

Not here yet, but just thought I'd give a good shot out for Number the Stars. We read that last year for Battle of the Books and my dd's loved it and still mention it. It was definitely a nice, somewhat uplifting (if that's possible) view of the war. Good luck in your search!

Re: Rest time

I have 10, 7 and 4. The 4 yr old still naps, though not nearly as long as she used to :(. She has about 90 minutes that she sleeps for. The older 2 have 30 min of reading time during this time. Then, if we don't have school work to get done, they play quietly together for another 30 min. If we have ...

How do you store your student pages before using them? Especially if you have a few students using them?? That's a lot of sheets to keep up with. I thought about an accordian folder? Thanks. I'm doing a folder system of sorts. 34 hanging folders for the year, 34 manila folders for each kid. Student...

I love the individually labeled and packaged kits! I agree that it seems strange to have b baggies with things I could definitely provide, but it's so helpful for me to have it all there. I'm just paying for the convenience. It's not necessary at all, but I sure do love it.

Re: God's World News Magazine?

Thanks so much for the input! I loved Weekly Reader as well and almost bought Scholastic. Glad I waited! So, my next question is, I will have a 2nd and 5th grader next year. Should I just get the 5th-6th she range and use it as a read aloud or do most get one for each child?

Okay, I am not in your exact situation at all, but I have similar issues. I have a 9, 6 and 3 yr old and this has been our first year of homeschooling. Welcome to the world of homeschooling. It truly is a world of it's own...an amazing world :). I have 3 girls, 10, 7 and 4. We were in public school up until this last year. We enjoyed our school years and my kids are very social creatures so I was concerned how they would handle being home more. The...

I'm in Central California - Spanish is VERY prevalent in our area and I have been saying for 2 years that I would learn it purely for my business alone, but I haven't yet. I feel pulled, now that I'm in the homeschool world (finishing up our 1st year), to learn latin, but I'm really leaning toward s...
