Re: Best way to organize student sheets?

I have 3 kiddos. Last year we did ECC and this year we are jumping ahead to 1850s to Modern times before oldest starts high school next year. I have tabs that say Week 1, etc. I put these in two binders. Split half way through. I compiled all the sheets for week 1, etc. and have them behind here. I ...

Re: Doubts about ECC

We did ECC this past year. I think there are lots of ways to include additional writing. After reading a chapter from a read aloud, your children could write 1-3 sentences about what they remember. You could do a mini country report for each country where they have to write 3-5 facts in complete sen...

Re: ECC with 8th Grader as only student

I am doing ECC with a 7th grader. He has a 3rd grade brother and a Kindergarten sister. I like the Trip Around The World and Another Trip Around the World. My son has loved hearing those facts. And, he likes the language pages. I wouldn't skip on these. In terms of the extension pack, I wouldn't thi...

Re: ECC-Organizing worksheets

I have the student pages three hole punch and they are in a large binder with my manual. It is broken down by week. Then, I have another binder, much smaller, where I have it also broken down by week with dividers and when the pages are completed they go behind the right tab. I will use this again n...

Re: Hard time deciding! MFW vs. Sonlight

We have a 7th grader doing ECC. So to address you question of is it light in older grades...not with an extension package. Plus, he is doing 2 literature guides from progency press. His science is separate and much more intense. And, he has a foreign language. Plus, I have added a vocabulary lesson ...

Re: Trying to decide on MFW?

This is our 3rd year homeschooling. When we made the decision to homeschool, I spent an afternoon at a friend's house looking through her SL. She loved it and used it from the beginning with both of her boys. I thought it looked great, but I was hesitant. I love schedules and plans, but all the extr...

Re: Is ECC too much for a 3rd grader?

I have an older son who is 3rd grade and he is loving ECC. He can name every country and even spells them. (The countries became his spelling words some weeks.) He loves the extra worksheets that he does with his brother on the facts, religions, etc. of countries. I will be honest and say we didn't ...

6th and 8th grader question

We are getting ready to buy next years curriculum. We are finishing up our 1st year of MFW and loving it! We used ECC this year so next year we should go into Creation to the Greeks. That would be fine for my will be 6th grader but my will be 8th grader just studied that last year before we started...

Re: MFW high school

This is off topic a bit, but when I was reading about your "nervousness", it made me think of this book.
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens, by Debra Bell
I just started reading it this week and it is answering some of my nervousness about homeschooling through high school.

Good luck.!

Re: Weeks 27-28 Japan

We spent the afternoon talking about Haiku's and reading some. Then we wrote some ourselves. The kids had a blast! Now, they are walking around talking in Haiku. They did some origami activities yesterday and one son even wrote a haiku in honor of the fox he made! It was a nice shift of language arts!

Combining a 1st grader and ECC

I am currently doing Adventures with my 2nd grader and most of the MFW K program with my younger son. My younger son however does a lot of the Adventures as well and I had ordered his own student sheets so that he could tag along and participate in the Adventures. I guess my question is, I'm assumi...

Re: Considering ECC for 7th and 4th graders

We school year round, even in the summer. In the summer we drop to math, reading and an elective....oldest will continue with Spanish and middle will do typing. This allows us to not have a drop off in math skills. The kids know as soon as they get their stuff done, we will head to the pool. When it...

Wow! 6 1/2 hours for your oldest is longer than PS! I won't (and can't) do more than 4 hours a day. Perhaps you are counting lunch and other breaks? That makes more sense. That does include our breaks I guess. LOL Here is a better breakdown....the time is at the highest estimate for the oldest Math...

Re: Considering ECC for 7th and 4th graders

1. Length of school day? Bible, geography and read aloud is about 1 1/2-2 hours. Depends how indepth we get with our discussions. Younger son takes about 4 - 4 1/2 hours a day. Oldest is about 6- 6 1/2 hours total. Of course, it depends on how focused they are and if they want to be pokey. Some days...

I have a 3rd grade son (9) and a 7th grade son (12) doing ECC this year. This is the only thing we do together as the gap is too wide for other subjects. Here are my experiences. Both of my boys LOVE geography. We stepped it up in places, especially oldest loved it. We learned ALL the countries in E...

This isn't exciting or flashy, but my kids would always have a notebook in the car on long car trips and they would ask how to spell the states. That's how our love of the states started. You would be crazy NOT to count it! :) I would maybe even have her "dictate" to you what she is learning or the favorite person she talked to. Make a journal for her. It would be a great keepsake.

Re: SO impressed with MFW at convention

I didn't go to convention to get MFW things. In March, this year they had a display at a local hotel about 45 minutes from me. I knew we were switching from what we were currently using. I didn't know to what. It was my WORST week possible to juggle one more thing. I prayed that Sunday night that if...
