Re: CtG with a first grade tag-along

I'm planning to do exactly that, starting this fall, with my 5th and 1st grader. I am coming from TWTM and SOTW, and wanting to start the history cycle with ancients. I will be using the SOTW audiobook in conjunction with CTG (I will just leave out the parts that I don't agree with!). I really hope ...

Re: Handwriting question

Thank you! Yes, that is what I was wanting. So I printed mod manuscript and mod cursive and laminated them. Each girl now has a guide to go by, as do I! We have just started mfw and the public school taught more of a ball and stick style. I have always liked the monkey tail look of the dnealian styl...

Re: World Magazine subscription

I can't answer your main question, but I second Crystal's suggestion to go to www.worldmag.com and access articles there. I have it set as my computer's homepage, and there are lots of articles available that could hold you over until your first issue arrived in the mail. :)

Re: Starting ECC Monday (8/6) and freaking out!

Thank you all! I am tucking kids in now, and then I am going to spread everything out on the dining room table and look through it. I just want to make sure there are no surprises that make it so we can't move ahead (supplies needed that I don't have, etc.), or me losing my audience as I fumble thro...

Re: Opinions on my first grader's writing

Thanks everyone. Her 1st grade teacher and iep (reading teacher), don't think that she is dyslexic. She does some reversals, which her ps teacher feels are normal, and also inventive spelling. I don't know though, I agree with you that she does some classic vowel omissions, letter reversals, etc. I ...

Re: Opinions on my first grader's writing

Thank you all for your time and opinions! What I am going to take away from your comments so far is that I'm not going to freak out! Most of her work looks more like the Owls paper. For the 6 weeks that we did homeschool at the beginning of first grade we tried A Reason for Handwriting A and HWOT. S...

Opinions on my first grader's writing

Could those of you have taught a first grader (or many of them), please give me your opinions on my daughter's writing/spelling. I don't know how much of this is normal for a first grader (it is the end of the school year, and she has been in public school including pre-k). I am planning to homescho...

Re: Any recommendations for summer reading?

:-)
You are awesome, thank you! I will look for these titles at my library throughout the summer :)

I think I will also go ahead and pick up the mfwk for my DS and use some parts of it this year...

Re: Any recommendations for summer reading?

Thanks for your answer Julie! Well, all of those ideas sound great, although I am limited by budget a bit... Her needs are for reading practice and math facts. I hesitate to purchase individual items from MFWK because I am sure I will buy the deluxe package for my son next year, and they will all pa...
