Re: Rest time

We have quiet time in our house. The youngest two actually sleep while the older three finish up whatever assignments they didn't get finished before lunch and do their math fact drilling with each other then they are free to either read/play quietly in the house or play outside. I love quiet time! ...

Re: I really (REALLY) want to save ECC for 8th grade

Well, I am new and therefore not as knowledgeable...But my 2 cents is to wait for ECC if that is where your heart is. Pray about it, ask your dh his opinion. If he leaves it up to you then go with your gut. I think it sounds lovely doing it together with all 4!

Re: Praise report for ECC and Singapore

Yah! That's so good to hear. :) We are still working on our first week of ECC and have been really enjoying it so far. The girls had so much fun with the geography pretest they want to do it again. My husband said we should let them if they want for extra practice. My husband also asked for a copy s...

Re: First Grade Proverbs with Wisdom & the Millers book

I'm not using First this year. But I just wanted to say how much our family loves the Millers books. We have them all and the girls ask to hear them over and over. We did our own study of Proverbs last year (basically read a chapter a day then discussed it) and we pulled stories for each chapter fro...

God's World News Magazine?

Is it worth it? Do the children enjoy it? We don't watch/read any news here, due to the depressing nature of it. I catch all my news online, but I do feel like the kids are missing out on the reality of what's going on in the world. Just curious to hear from those who have used it and what you thou...

Finally ordering! Questions

Should I order the preK program for my 3.5 year old...or just do fun stuff at home? Do kids really like lacing things non-stop? I'm not sure he would really want to do any of these things... Just to throw out our experience in case it helps you decide...We ordered the MFW preK package for my 4 yr o...

Prepping my TM- pictures

I have been working on getting everything all set up and ready for our June 4th start date. Like I mentioned in another thread (can't remember which one) I will be doing ECC again for three of my daughters so I didn't want to fill in the TM and then have nothing to write in next time. So I copied th...

Re: Box day question

We were SO excited to get our box I couldn't not share it with them! We opened it together in the middle of the living room and spread everything out. We were so excited to flip through everything and see it all there was not enough time to sit and read through any individual book. After we had our ...

Re: Wondering if PLL may be too difficult for my 2nd Grader

I've only been using PLL for two weeks with my just-turned 7 and 8yr olds. I was a little nervous too because I have also been gently schooling and this was a BIG step up from what we had been doing...But we all love it so far! One of my favorite aspects of the book is how easy it is to simplify the...

ECC - Book Basket/Suggested Reading

These are not MFW suggested book basket books (I did pick up some of those too) but I'm very happy with some books I found for our ECC basket at Rod and Staff's website. I really love R&S and CLE books for my girls, especially the strong Christian character portrayed by the stories' main characters....

Re: Yearly Testing?

We use http://www.familylearning.org for our (non required) annual CAT testing. This is what we have used too every year since my oldest was 8 and we legally had to test. It's a "bubble" test that the parent gives at home then mails in. The test results are mailed to you in a couple of weeks. I've ...

Re: Fun resources for ECC

Thanks for sharing these links. We are starting ECC in June and I am starting to collect my book basket and extras. I actually just got the animal globe through Amazon. It was only a few dollars- not bad. I found a sticker dolls around the world book at Barnes and Noble. The girls are really excited...

(((Hugs))) to you! Not really sure a tip is what you're looking for...but just in case it will help, how about doing a lesson outside? Maybe IN the fort? My 8 yr old DD sounds a lot like your son, though it has been easier with her this year. She absolutely LOvES doing school outside. I really think...

Re: Shorter CM lessons in MFW?

This thread has been very helpful! Julie- Thank you for the link to the CM article. There was a lot of good advice there. I also followed the link from that page to the CM online magazine. That was wonderful! Here's a link to it- http://www.bluetoad.com/iphone/?i=44527&p=&search_str=&noframe=&r=http...

Re: 1st & 2nd Grade Writing?

I just want to encourage you. I think your children's writing sample are wonderful! My girls are very behind in this area (lack of teaching on my part). But I am confident they can catch up! We are starting to work on it daily. Baby steps... I am obviously no expert here, but just to throw out some ...

Re: Library books

We do not do the library mostly because I find it time consuming/stressful to try to locate/reserve/return in a timely manner- just too much for me to keep up with. We prefer to buy used books as much as we can. This will be my first year finding books for a MFW book basket, but when we were doing KO...
