Re: Prayers appreciated
My OP for some back story https://board.mfwbooks.com/viewtopic.php?t=15928 An update on my friend’s family: Their dad moved back to his hometown several states away. The girls were in a small Christian private school until COVID-19 quarantine. We get to see them once or twice a year. I’m praying the...

Re: Prayers appreciated
Hi, again- I would just like to ask for prayers for our upcoming homeschool year. We made a lot of sweet memories last school year. We took 1.5 years to complete RTR because we were schooling through grief. We completed RTR in February ‘20 and started Exp1850 at that time. Our summer break ends soon...

Re: SOTW 3
I should mention, my kids are 11 (upcoming 6th) and 13 (upcoming 8th). We began Exp1850 in February, after taking 1.5 yrs to complete RTR. We had a lot of life-happenings going on that year, and also just enjoyed digging deeper with the Middle Ages. Thanks!

Re: SOTW 3
Thanks so much! Another thing I’ve encountered this year that was surprising is all the summaries. I’m used to the TM kinda walking me through what to do, but there wasn’t much explanation for how to do those, or why so many. We’ve found ways to work through them together, but it was very stressful ...

SOTW 3
We have loved using SOTW in the past, but this year, we just aren’t enjoying it. It seems to give unnecessary details, not in an engaging, story-like way, as in the past. There have also been more than usual references to the grisly way people died or were killed. Any recommendations for a different...

Re: How to complete the history cycle?
Thank you, that’s something to consider. I’m thinking of an option C, too. I could just place a bookmark here, take 3 or so weeks off for summer (which is usually how long we take before getting bored and wishing for school again). Then we could begin our “new” school year where we left off. It woul...

How to complete the history cycle?
Hi- I have a 7th and 5th grader, and due to life happenings, it took us 1.5 years to complete RTR. We began Exp1850 in February 2020 and are exactly half-way through (week 15, since I’m dropping the state report). I’d like to be able to begin 1850Mod in the fall so that my then 8th grader can comple...

Saxon placement test
I am ready to give my child the Saxon placement test, but I can no longer find it on the MFW website. Can anyone provide a link? My child is in 7th grade. He’s very good at math, but a slow worker. I’ve never rushed him. So he’s completing Singapore 5B right now. Rather than going through Singapore ...

Prayers appreciated
Hi, all- I posted here before that my best friend of 11 years and fellow homeschool mom passed away from brain cancer in January. We’ve taken a lot of breaks this school year. I am keeping up with school, but merely checking off boxes. I’m so thankful to have the “grid” to carry me along when I can’...

Re: Prayers appreciated
Thank you all for your prayers, and for the sweet card I received from MFW. My friend’s girls are starting at a small Christian school next week, as it seems the Lord has directed them there. They’ve always been homeschooled so this will be a big transition. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Prayers appreciated
Hi, my name is Beth and I've been a member here for 7 years. I learned how to use MFW partly through my best friend, who was homeschooled herself. We have been friends since our now 12 year olds were 1. I wanted to ask for prayers here for her family and mine because she passed away on Jan. 20th aft...

Re: What are your plans for 2018-2019?
We took Memorial Day through mud-July off and just began to get back into our routine. Dedicated school will begin Aug 6. We're still on week 29 of CTG, so we'll probably begin RTR mid-late Aug. Slowly collecting my books! Excited!

Re: "Gospel" is an unusual word - Minutes with Marie
Thank you so much, Marie! This is what we've been doing for years, and it feels very Spirit led. Yet I sometimes question myself if I should be gently challenging some of those beliefs. I don't want to, honestly. I think they have the heart of the gospel and that's the best part. I feel that we caus...

Re: "Gospel" is an unusual word - Minutes with Marie
Marie, for some reason, in our homeschooling circle, God has brought me friends of varying denominational backgrounds. I have a Greek Orthodox friend, a couple of Catholic friends, and just recently met a new friend who is Messianic. If all of these people love Jesus and believe in the Gospel as I d...

Re: Finishing “on time”
I just spoke to a friend who gave me a really great third option that I think is the right choice! I think we'll continue with Bible, History, and math whenever we are home this summer, then take a break when we reach the end of CTG. That gives us a break from most academics while simultaneously fin...

Re: Finishing “on time”
Well, that makes sense. But I think I'd be sad not to complete the cycle with them. We enjoy it so much. We usually school year-round. But I might finish differently this time. Tell me what you think of these options: We are in week 26 of CtG. We just got back from the beach and my kids have VBS nex...

Finishing “on time”
I get really stressed sometimes about completing the MFW history cycle before high school. We used a different curriculum one year, so my oldest won’t repeat ECC. We should be able to complete the history cycle “on time”, but things always take longer than I expect and life ends up stretching out ou...

Re: Looking for a Synergy Group!!
Btw, as Julie suggested in the Synergy sticky above, I have posted on every local homeschooling message board (2 of them) and every national MFW FB page I’m a member of (3 of them) , and spread the word in my community about what I’m looking for. No one at all found yet.

Looking for a Synergy Group!!
I’m looking to join or start a Synergy Group near Athens, GA for RtR this fall! Please contact me if interested! I have an 11yo boy and a 9 yo girl. My kids play well with boys and girls of all ages, and we especially have a shortage of boys in our friendship pool! So families with boys aged 9-12 ar...
