Re: Other Ideas for Kindergarten
My ds is making a poetry journal. We read the poem together each morning after our 100 chart and calendar. Before we start the unit, I print the poem on a plain piece of white paper. The first day, my ds illustrates the poem while I read. The rest of the week he listens and so far, by the end of eve...

Re: # 6 - Turtle
We are working on our turtle unit this week and my ds is loving it, of course! I am having to find lots of extra turtle activities because he just doesn't want to stop working! Anyway, one thing we've done is found a large, rounded rock and painted it using tempera paint to look like a turtle shell ...

Re: # 3 - Leaf
We took our best leaf rubbings this week and painted over them with watercolors. They turned out so beautiful, my ds is helping put them in frames we found at the thrift store and giving them to grandparents, aunts, and uncles for Christmas gifts! Just a thought for a neat kid-made project that real...

Re: # 5 - Nest
Rather than use the animal homes sheet to cut and paste onto a poster this week, I had my ds cut out each picture. I then tacked them to a small bulletin board in our living room (our entire living and kitchen area do double duty as classroom space), placing each picture randomly around the board. I...

Re: Badges - Ideas for wearing them and alternatives
Ok, this might have already been posted(I think I read all of the previous posts, but I'm trying to finish my posts quick before dd wakes up from her nap, so I could have missed a couple!), but we are gluing our badges onto magnet strips and my ds is giving them away (outreach). He mostly wants to g...

Re: # 1 - Sun
We just finished the sun unit and started the moon today, and I am a little behind on the weather chart I intended to start last week... However, we got it going yesterday and we are using a homemade pictograph on a bulletin board we have in our living room. We have a weather chart posted where my d...

Re: # 2 - Moon
Here is a website that allows you to print a free, blank calendar with spaces to chart the phases of the moon for any month you choose! My husband and ds are doing this as a "guy's" project. It's a great way for my husband to be involved in school because they can fill the chart out in the evenings ...

Re: # 1 - Sun
"Sparkle bottles" are a really fun craft idea for the sun unit and very simple, not to mention cheap! Take any empty, clear bottle (water bottles are good, especially ones with a WIDE mouth!) and fill 3/4 of the way full with light corn syrup. Add a handful of sequins, glitter, or other sparkly thin...

Re: Other Ideas for Kindergarten
My son loves collections. He has feather collections, rock collections, cicada shell collections, leaf collections, even snake skin collections! :~ My husband and I were searching for a way to contain his collections without compromising all the hard work my son puts forth in "collecting" (and to ke...
