I eventually found a good globe at Books a Million. Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Considering Kindle version some ECC books...

Geography from A to Z is used through almost the whole program. I think you're thinking of Maps and Globes. Both are good books.

Re: Alternative to "M" stories for ECC

If your husband is assuming that the abovementioned books focus only on missionaries, I would point out that that is not the case. Window on the World in particular has quite a few stories about ordinary people living out their faith. I think Hero Tales has some, too. Christian Heroes Then and Now i...

Re: How do you work toward independence before high school?

I am glad that I could encourage you. I agree about the various video and worktext options out there. Each time I have seriously looked into them, hoping to make homeschooling easier, I eventually come back to MFW and decide that it fits my philosophy better. And these other programs I've looked at ...

Re: How do you work toward independence before high school?

I found it necessary to let my oldest do most of her ECC work in fifth grade independently, because I was busy with her younger siblings and my other responsibilities. I would have liked to do more of the program with her, but I just didn't have enough time to do it all. I think she did fine and lea...

Anyone use a homeschool planner?

I want to find a homeschool planner that works well for a parent who teaches two levels of MFW, Kindergarten and CTG. I want it to include space for menu planning and household tasks as well as homeschool plans. It would be great if it also had space for planning workouts. What do you use?

Re: Where to find a good globe?

My search for teacher supply stores in Bangor is coming up empty. Anyone have some specific names of stores I can check? I think they still have Target there, so maybe I can look there for a globe when we go.

Where to find a good globe?

I want to find a more durable globe to replace the beach ball globes we had. I don't think any stores in our little town sell globes, so I want to look for one next time I go to a large city (Bangor). What kind of store would sell the kind of globe that would work for a homeschooling family? It must...

How do you store you used curriculum and resources?

Do you think it is better to keep all the wonderful books we get in our curriculum packages out on shelves to access anytime after we finish the year's curriculum, or is it better to pack them away in a box so they will seem new and interesting to the younger ones when it comes time to use them agai...

We too have tried a variety of math programs. Now my oldest uses Math Lessons for a Living Education. I don't think it is too hard to teach or to understand. Can you share what you are looking for in a math curriculum?

Re: Looking for a Synergy Group!!

I was hoping to start a synergy group here in Caribou, Maine, but haven't found anyone to start a group with. Could the MFW people set up some way for us to find other MFW homeschoolers? I know that they keep track of us, because I periodically get calls from MFW. Maybe this is something we could op...

Re: What are your plans for 2018-2019?

I'm planning to do CTG with my sixth-grader, with her working mostly independently. I plan to do K with my son, and have my two year old play with my daughter while I work with him on reading and math. I hope to start in August with a four-day-a-week schedule. This should allow us the flexibility to...

Doing Kindergarten units out of order.

Since there is only a brief time of year when I believe caterpillars or butterflies could survive outside in our area, I want to use the Butterfly Garden during that time. Would doing Week 25, the butterfly unit, out of sequence pose any problem for my kindergartener? What if we aren't even close to...

How much of K would you use for a younger child?

I have been considering whether to buy the kindergarten program to use with my middle child. I also have a fifth grader doing ECC, and a toddler. The amount of time I can carve out to work with my middle child is very limited. Our budget for homeschool resources is also quite limited. What parts of ...

Re: Newbie

I would wait and see whether she seems to be ready for first grade when the time comes, before deciding. Kindergarten is optional. There's no harm in doing the kindergarten program with a six-year-old, then moving on to first grade from there, but I would not try to do both at once. If your child is...

Re: How to simplify the curriculum?

Honestly, we haven't been using VOD very often lately, but when we do it's usually when my fourth-grader is busy doing something else or has gone to a music lesson. I would like to fit it in, but I am not sure how to do that. I really wanted to use VOD with my middle child so that he would have his ...

How to simplify the curriculum?

I have been doing ECC with my fourth-grader, sometimes doing VOD with my four-year-old, and taking care of my youngest, a seven-month-old. Our days are so full that I am looking for ideas about what to cut out, especially with ECC. I have been skipping the "advanced" assignments, and we're not using...

Re: Pre-K and Records Questions

You could stretch out the Pre-K program and wait to start MFW K until you think your daughter is about ready for kindergarten work. As far as what the public schools want to know when you enroll a child, I don't think tests are really important at this age. You might want to check with HSLDA to find...

Thank you, Marie, for these devotionals. I just got the Pre-K curriculum, and I enjoy the encouraging devotionals in the TM as well. I know that MFW is really special. One of your staff called me today to ask how our homeschooling is going and to pray for our family. That was really encouraging, and...

Re: book basket in a small town?

I live in a town of about 8,000 people. Compared to several of the towns around here, this is "the city." In this predominantly rural area, I can usually find at least a few books that are on the book basket list, or substitute other books on the topic we are studying. Sometimes I buy recommended bo...
