Re: Tell me about your 2nd grade boys...

If there is a notebooking page, he will write 2-3 sentences. He also sometimes does writing station which is 5 sentences for independent work time. Same with PLL (new version)... Whatever it asks. We also do AAS, and we often write the words or 4-6 sentences of dictation. If I see there's writing fo...

Re: 2014-2015 Roll Call

I am mom to 5 little ones. Our oldest son is in 2nd and doing Adventures, then there's the first grade boy tagging along with Adventures but doing his own math and reading. And adding real excitement to our day is a 3 yr. old boy, a 2 yr. old girl and a 1 yr. old girl. We started out homeschooling K...

Re: Book basket/rest time?

We are new to MFW, but we do have "quiet time" every day after lunch for the big kids. My oldest (7) chooses to read the entire time (yay!) and he always has a chapter book going. My 6 yr. old looks at books, does lego, etc because he isn't reading quite yet. I have our schedule penciled out, and th...

Re: Teaching 1st and adventures

Just wanted to say we'll be doing the same thing! I anticipate including him on everything, and I'll just script for him because I can tell the writing will be too much.

Re: Adv. or eclectic for next year? Heeelp!

It's quite a ride isn't it? Most days I'm just trying to hold down the fort, get everyone fed and clean, etc etc. That's why I need to remind myself often that even the best laid plans are no good unless they actually get done! Looking at the manual, I do think it will be a shock to our systems, but ...

Re: Adv. or eclectic for next year? Heeelp!

Wow, this is very interesting. I had a lightbulb moment as I read your reply and instantly felt a little relieved too. One worry I have is trying to do too much and burning out. I'm already "on the edge" with the ages of my crew, and we aren't doing that much yet. My kids actually go to school one m...

Re: Adv. or eclectic for next year? Heeelp!

If I'm being honest, a "gap year" scares me! I think I'd have a hard time going from something structured and all layed out for me, to pulling my own stuff together. I kind of feel like if I need a gap year, it kind of defeats the purpose of starting now. I'm hearing that adventures is perfect for 2...

Re: Why can't I find any long term MFW users?

I just wanted to pop in and say that I'm loving all of these responses. Through this and the FB page, I've met a ton of MFW lovers, which makes me happy :-)

Re: Looking for Reviews on Enrichment Items

Keva blocks are also a hit with my 5 and 7 yr. old boys. Looking at them, I didn't think they would be, but they actually get very creative while building with them. A worthwhile investment for 2 kids who I consider hard to entertain!

Re: Box is here...

I am mostly a lurker here, as we are doing MFW for the first time next year and look forward to using Adventures. I love to hear people share their detailed thoughts and first impression of the curriculum, especially ECC. I admit to being a little fearful of using something that is written for such ...
