Re: Creation to Greeks supply list?

Thanks! So helpful. God to know we will need binders every year. And that the basic list is the same. I am not really the page protector "type." Lol. Just not a perfectionist at all, and not particularly organized. I tend to just hole punch things for the most part. Forgot I'll also need first grade...

Re: Am I doing this right?

I had two thoughts when I read your post. The first was about timing. I know my 9 year old hated writing (IEW). I finally realized she was doing it last each day. It was challenging for her and she had already used so much mental energy. Also, it was something she really needed to do thoughtfully an...

Re: K/ ECC schedule?

Thanks so much for all the thoughts. My dd is very wed to the idea of having a schedule more like the first one :~ I'm still not so sure, but I did tell her we'd give it a try. So I'm going to follow through on it for at least a few weeks. I thought we'd also get started slowly, so hopefully that wi...

Re: Book basket/rest time?

Thanks for the thoughts - Not having done book basket yet, I'll take your word that an hour a day might be too much. I think I am going to still make it part of that time, but just have them begin with book basket and then finish quiet time with other activities or reading if they chose to. I like t...

Re: General Ideas for ECC

We are just getting ready to start this week. But here are two globe ideas I haven't seen mentioned: The Intelliglobe. Search at sites like Rainbow Resource for "Intelliglobe with Wireless Intelli-Pen" Got it a few weeks ago and the kids LOVE it! My younger ones listen to the national anthems and da...

Re: Singapore math questions..

I want to make it clear that I did NOT use MFW last year, but did use Singapore for my kids. So, I could be missing something having never used the MFW guides. For my first grader, we had to actually take a break from 1A for a couple of weeks to focus just on his facts. He didn't know them well enou...

Re: Sick/Easy day ideas?

Thanks Jen! My parents actually own the entire BBC Planet Earth series!! That is one we are planning to do for sure. I just started reading through all of the great ideas on the ECC board. There is so much there! I'm sure I'll get lots of inspiration. Puzzles are a great idea too, Dawn! We don't rea...

Re: Afternoon free time options?

I like the idea of a rotating schedule, especially with messier things or projects that need help/supervision. Hmmm. I will have to think about that. Maybe a list of every day options and then a "special" activity certain days.

Re: workboxes

I haven't used MFW yet, this will be our first year. I did use a workbox system this past year with Sonlight, though. I liked it and plan to continue. My school aged kids were first and third grade. Science, history, and other subjects we did together didn't go in the boxes. Only things that were sp...

Afternoon free time options?

I am trying to put together a list of options for my kids in the afternoons. My plan is to school in the morning, lunch and then a short rest time (book basket during rest maybe?) and then until 3 or 4, they'd have free time with a list of allowed activities. Basically, I want to avoid TV and the "I...

Re: Can anyone review the Safari Rush Hour game?

I have to say that it's worth getting this even if you have the original!! My kids love it. We have the original Rush Hour game, but this one is much larger and just feels more fun to them with the animals. I was hesitant to spend the money, but my oldest really wanted me to order it (she's 9), so I...

Re: Advice for newbie please?

I am SO glad to read what others have written about ECC being heavier in the beginning. My plan was already to begin ECC and K first and then add in LA and math for the older kids after we'd gotten into ECC a bit. (This is my second year HSing and first year with MFW. My school aged kids are 4th, 2n...

We got our box!!

I saw another post here about icebox pie on box day, so we made some. First time we'd ever had it and it was delicious! I had SO much fun opening these boxes. This year it was more than I expected - two big boxes, and it all just look like so much fun!! I can tell already that MFW is going to be a m...

Thank you all!! It's great to hear that this work for others. That's so helpful. Ruthmelia - It's EXACTLY what I'll have: 4th, 2nd, k, and 3 and 1 year old! Hmm, I like the clipboard idea. About halfway through the year, I started using a workbox system for my older two and it's been wonderful. They...

Re: Is this too much?

I wasn't going to order this soon actually, although I don't really know what I was waiting for. But then I got an email from MFW that there was free shipping for the remainder of April as long as certain select items were included in the order. That free shipping was just the push I needed to order...

Re: Fun special days

I love that tea idea. I have a friend with mostly boys who does poet teas . They all read poetry aloud and have a special tea. I really like your idea of it being one on one, but I have five! And the little ones are too little to be left alone while I'm with another, so I may have to get creative to...

Fun special days

I read the post about " Icebox pie Day " and thought it sounded like such a fun tradition. It got me thinking about all the special little days I'd like to celebrate with my kids but that end up getting lost in the shuffle. Like Groundhog Day, Dr. Seuss' birthday, the first day of spring . One other...

Re: Is this too much?

Lori - You are exactly right that I could easily get caught up in getting things "done" and suck all the joy out of our homeschooling! Julie - I LOVE the idea of having a list for afternoon options. I've been planning to implement something like that next year (This year, adjusting to homeschooling ...

Re: Is this too much?

Hmmm, I'll reconsider Latin. And critical thinking his am easy one to cut out for now. That's one I can add later on at any point if we feel we have the time and energy to add something else. I'm on my phone so I can't see who said it, but I agree I really want to get the most out of ECC. I'd rather...

Re: Spelling in 2nd grade

I think it depends on her attitude toward the subject. My third grader finished Singapore 3B in February and immediately asked for 4A (in fact, she did a few weeks worth of 3B and then of 4A while we were technically on break for the Olympics). However, there are subjects my kids are far less fond o...

Re: What level do kids typically place in 2nd grade singapor

Thanks again! This board has been such an encouragement to me. We actually do have Singapore Essentials already. He's going through them slowly. And he doesn't actually mind talking about the pages, but typically doesn't want to do the writing (even just circling - he will ask me to do it). I think ...
