Re: General ideas for Creation to the Greeks

I know this site has been around but for those who don't know, I use some of the movie titles here to support our history study. http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/movies.htm We watched the Ten Commandments while we studied about the Ten Commandments. Netflix has many of these titles and you can view s...

Retention, Remembering, Review - Ideas & encouragement

Science Retention- How do you teach science? I worry that my kids are not retaining any (or much) information from science. I am wondering if I should start testing them or drawing up review sheets or something to help with retention. Here is how we do science-- I read the selected material, we go ...

Re: MFW Reading with Older DC (Multiples)

Thanks for the great advice, everyone! I'm soaking it all in. I'm re-educating myself also with the read alouds. Maybe that's why I want to read all of the books and let them find their own. HeeHee!

You've had some great heads up on those titles but here's a site that I love. It gives the content regarding foul language, adult situations, etc.

Re: Your opinion : MFW Science

Ditto everything Crystal has so beautifully stated. We are only in year 2 (still newbies) of MFW but we love the science and haven't used any other science with it. We have added library books as MFW suggests. I know that CTG has a list of literature for history topics, composer studies and science ...

I have two 6th graders, one 5th grader and a preschooler running around. It usually takes up about 5 hours. If they are playing or goofing around, it takes 6. ;)

new to mfw

I am new to mfw. I will be starting ECC with my 12 year old (son) and 9 year old (daughter). I also will be doing the Ancient History and literature with my 9th grader (son). I feel very nervous about starting this new curriculum. I don't know why but I already feel overwhelmed. Maybe because I was...

Re: How do you wait?

I'm right with ya. I have a soon to be 3 yo (sept) and she is ready for school now. It's so great to watch her soak things up like a sponge. I'm doing Letter of the Week (revised a bit) and using some of MFW preschool things. I think it's just enough to occupy her while I teach her brothers.

Re: ECC Question

I did ECC this past year with a toddler and it took us about 4-5 hrs with math and grammar included. Keep in mind, I was teaching a highschooler, two 5th graders and a fourth grader so teaching one child may not take as long. If MFW didn't prepare the lesson plans so well, I would've been totally lo...

What manipulatives if any do you use for math?

My ds is currently using Singapore math 2A and I really think he needs some form of manipulative so I was wondering what would be the best. We have some Cuisenaire Rods but we need a bigger set. I didn't know if I should add to what we have, if I should get Base Ten Blocks or something else. What w...

Re: I need some thoughts on how and when to finish ECC.

Don't worry about being behind after all, you homeschool. You make your own schedule. We had been "behind" our planned schedule with ECC this year also due to family situations arising but I simply condensed the missed weeks into an overview. We did the Geography, Bible and Science reading but may h...

Re: Exploring Countries and Cultures -- Share Your Experiences

We are using ECC (4th and 5th graders) and it has definitely changed my dc's perspective as well as mine in regards to viewing the world from God's eyes. There are so many people in need and who need our prayers. We are learning about various people and their cultures in addition to the geography sk...
