Re: Hymns

What a beautiful idea! Adventures has student sheets for the patriotic songs - I'm guessing something similar could be make. But I really, really, really love the idea of a family hymnal. LOVE THE IDEA!!!!!

I would buy six. And probably a bunch of extra. ;)

Re: What is your favorite year of MFW?

We have used K, Adventures, ECC, and are finishing up CtG. It's a definite tie between ECC & CtG. ECC was SO much work because we added a ton of art & food, but we all have such good memories of it. CtG has been just a seamless year - everything has intertwined so well and been so well balanced. I c...

Re: Creation to Greeks questions

There are a good bit of hands on activities, and lots of resources available if you want to add. One of the books that comes with the program is on Ancient Egypt and it has lots of great hand on activities. They aren't all scheduled, but you could do them all if you wanted. There are also several bo...

Re: Christmas Traditions

Our traditions that must get done every year: *Polar Express night - read the book, watch the movie with pizza, hot cocoa, and treats. Super simple but always a fun night! *Making cookies *Tons and tons of beautiful Christmas picture books. We add a new one each year. *Looking at Christmas lights. *...

Help me understand Singapore timing/progress

I'm still a little confused with Singapore math. My simple question is this: ideally, what level of Singapore math needs to be completed by the end of what grade? I am finding very conflicting answers online and on the message boards. We switched to Singapore in October of last year and we went back...

Praise for Creation to the Greeks

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for such a wonderful year. This is our third year with MFW (we have done Adventures & ECC). We are starting week 11 in CtG. My husband and I both went to a private Christian college and took daily Bible classes during our four years there. The material that we are lear...

Re: Teaching from Rest

I should mention that I really, really loved the book Teaching from Rest, and in general I love Sarah McKenzie. It's just important for us all to remember that her teaching from rest (loop scheduling, morning time, etc.) may not ever be MY teaching from rest. I think as long as we are trusting in Go...

Re: Teaching from Rest

Funny enough, I taught in the style Teaching from Rest prescribes for several years. Morning time (I think her family calls it Symposium), a loop cycle, using curriculum as tools and not worrying about following it perfectly, etc. It stressed me out! It took me so long to choose the *perfect* books,...

Re: Suggestion for CtG - note booking pages for the feasts

Thanks so much Julie! I think I am just going to create pages with open ended prompts just like what you just listed for me! We are really getting into note booking this year, but there is so much to the feasts that I want them to remember I think prompts may help direct their memory a bit. Most of ...

Suggestion for CtG - note booking pages for the feasts

We are in week 5 of CtG and I absolutely adore it. Hands down our best year yet. Thank you so much! One thing I would love to see added into the student sheets for future use is a note booking page about each of the feasts/Jewish holidays. I'm going to have my boys write about each feast and what we...

Re: Repeating ECC - ? abt Prop of Ecosystems

I can't imagine needing it. As long as you can figure out which ecosystem corresponds with which country (which is easy enough to do by looking at the sample ECC pages online), just plus in the readings for each part. The 8th grader should ideally be doing a regular science course at this point (I t...

Re: Recommendations for Bible studies for kids

Doorposts has a neat study that is geared toward boys called Because You Are Strong. It's really neat because through the course of the study they are taught how to use resources like concordances, atlases, Bible dictionaries, etc. They say that even though it is geared to boys, that girls can gain ...

Re: ECC--Ordering Question

It's really more of a pick & choose situation. There are multiple pages for every continent, but you can choose which ones to assign. My 4th grader only does 2 or 3 sheet per continent (so sometimes only 1 sheet every other week). Older kids may do more, but it really depends on what type of homesch...

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and ordered 3A to start him in. I think that the couple things that he is missing from 2B will be easy to cover ourselves or will be built on in 3A and I can just handle it then. Looking back, it was very little from 2B and most of it was mental math. Thankfully, I have...

Re: How to use teacher's guide schedules - what do you do?

Thanks everyone! Funny - we have actually done the spiral notebook thing for about six months now, but I am SO tired of writing it out every night. Especially when so much is exactly the same from day to day. I know that in theory it really doesn't take that long to do for two kids, but it is just o...

Thank you so much for all of the responses! It takes about 2 hours a day all together, but it is kinda spread out ...

I think I made a mistake...Help!

Last year was our first year with My Father's World. We used Adventures with a 3rd grade boy & 1st grade boy, with two youngers tagging along. The first half of the year was great...then we moved and rushed through the second half. We really didn't give it a fair shake. Because of the move, I tried ...
