Re: Which curriculum should I simultaneously teach a 3 & 4 yo?

HSLDA has info. On state requirements. You want to make sure you are following those. Some states don't require you to start school until a certain age and that age varies by state. May God bless you as you start home schooling your little ones!

Homeschooling overseas

Hi everyone, My husband and I are applying with a missionary organization. As we are moving along in the process I was wondering if anyone on here has transitioned to mission work while homeschooling? How did you juggle time for fundraising, moving, etc. And homeschooling? Did you take a break from ...

Re: Which curriculum should I simultaneously teach a 3 & 4 yo?

I don't believe you can hold a 4 year old back. There is so much more for our children to learn than academics! I would agree with the previous poster and start on pre-k. It is a great program. Then you can start both on Kinder and if your younger child is not ready for it they can easily join in on...

Re: First grade - summary sentences

I am teaching First Grade and I always write down my daughter's summary and have her copy it. I think that is very age appropriate. 😀

Re: Prayers appreciated

Beth, I am praying for your family and your friend's family. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God....

Re: Choosing Math

I noticed that noone had responded so I wanted to respond. I haven't used those but looked at Right Start math a few years ago. It looks pretty hands- on and teacher intensive and I didn't think I would have the time for it back then, but if your child would do well with it and you can manage it the...

Re: CTG subbing MOH1 and Geology

We are in week 13 of CTG right now. Streams of Civ. Is used but only small parts so far. The readings add more detail to the part of history being studied. For example, as we learn about pharoahs in Egypt, we read a bit about pharaohs from Streams. We read about a women pharoah and who she succeeded...

Re: Schedule for teaching multiple young children

Update: We have a good routine! I wrote out a routine and we have been sticking to it! Our days are going better. God has helped me to change my perspective also and be realistic about how much academic work we can do and how loving and training my kids is so important and must come first. Thank you...

Re: Schedule for teaching multiple young children

Thank you for your replies. They are helpful. I have considered not doing preschool, but I honestly just do 10 min. and not every day. We do have a routine, but we will work on tightening them up. I am doing Math and Language arts for 1st and K. I do add in the K activities as we have time. My K gir...

Schedule for teaching multiple young children

Hello, I am teaching CTG to my 4th grader ( though all join in) MFW 1st grade, MFW K( we just started) and I have a 3 year old ( we do preschool when we can fit it in. He likes the one on one time with me) and he is potty training and a 1 year old. I am wondering if anyone could share advice on how ...

Re: Using Grade 1 with older child?

Hello, I am teaching first grade to my 7 year old. I personally love the phonics and the Bible lessons. My daughter finds the curriculum fun and engaging. The math is gentle and hands on. She loves the math. I think you will probably find the math to be lighter than CLE but I am not too familiar wit...

Re: Alternative to "M" stories for ECC

Hello, If I am remembering right, in many of the chosen read alouds if not all, you see the main character being faithful to minister in their home country first. The books show their process of maturing spiritually and the result is that they are active in ministry and follow wherever God leads the...

Re: Considering Kindle version some ECC books...

Hello, The Kingdom Tales hardcover book that I bought did not have pictures, but I bought it from a bookstore. I did find the discussion questions helpful. They helped to point towards the main point and lesson in the story. But I have young kids and they needed that. You could also just read the st...

Re: Anyone use a homeschool planner?

I use the Ultimate Homeschool planner by Debra Bell. It has 52 weeks in it. I use it as an all in one planner and write the days of the weeks on the left side. I have a column for myself( I write in homemanagement, meals, to do lists etc.), then one for our together subjects (this is CTG this year) ...

My son tried another math program before singapore and didnt like it because it was boring to him. He likes Singapore math because of the pictures! I like the mental math aspect. He is finishing up 2B and is good at mental math. I find the textbook has enough instruction for me. I did have the Home ...

Re: How do you store you used curriculum and resources?

I have young ones who would take the books all over the house so I put my books away in a tote. I will periodically bring out a book that we read previously, but I store them away. I buy book basket books so those are kept away until we need them. I have other books out all of the time and MFW books...

Re: Organizing the Binder - Exploration to 1850

Hi, I am probably not the best person to answer this because I just organize the binders the way that is easiest for me. We just started CTG but I am assuming each history cycle year is similar. I have one binder for math and language arts and put two dividers in it to separate math, writing assignm...

I agree with many blessings. My oldest is 9.5 and I would say he wasn't as comfortable with handwriting until around 9. He still doesn't enjoy writing but it is definitely more comfortable for him. I also pushed my oldest too hard. I am a better late than early person as I have seen the benefit of s...

Re: Help!! Multiple grades

What are the ages of your children? I am wondering if you can wait to start your youngest? Or maybe your 6th grader can do the prek program with them. I am doing it now and going at a slow pace ( I have 10-15 min. Of one on one time with my 4 year old. ) Or get a simple workbook( if they like workbo...
