Greek Olympics
We just finished Creation to the Greeks! For our finale, we held the 2008 Greek Olympics at our house. We invited 3 other home school families from our neighborhood, plus 2 other families from our church....for a total of 18 kiddos...5 of which were too young. Just like the TM suggested, we had a ru...

How early?
I hope this question does not seem to naive. We will be starting MFW K in September. I was wondering when I should order our caterpillars and ants? How long before the actual unit week? The guide says to order early but how early? What do I do with them in the mean time? Thanks in advance. Jennifer...

Posted: Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:00 pm My 4.5 yo dd kept asking to do school. Soon thereafter, I found MFW and thought it would be perfect to spread MFWK over 2 years, especially since K spends 6 days on each letter. I thought 2 weeks for each letter (Mon-Wed-Fri)...make it light. I mean, she was not ev...

Posted: Thu Sep 21, 2006 8:43 am One reason I'd like to do spelling is that she is writing a book of short stories, and she is always asking me or her younger brother how to spell words. (She started this book this summer and has worked on it fairly consistently. She is almost done with her 3rd sho...

Posted: Wed Sep 20, 2006 8:07 am Thanks so much for your insights. I've already tried many of the things you both suggested. One thing that stuck out the most though is something Kelly said because it describes my dd very well. This is what we do for math, and I don't know why we shouldn't do it fo...

Posted: Wed Nov 28, 2007 10:54 am In September, we went to Virginia and did a lot of site seeing (with my 8,7, and 4yo). We ended up going to Mt. Vernon, not once, but twice!! It has really changed from when I was there last. We had a neat time there. There was even a 'live' Martha Washington. My k...

Posted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 2:12 pm We just finished up Week 2 in Creation to the Greeks. What a neat week. Here are some ideas that we did for this week: We read again about Adam and Eve and TEMPTATION. On a spur of the moment, I told the kids that there were some brownies on the counter and that dad...

Hi... We are in Week 5 of CTG. I am using it with a 7 and 8.5 yo. I almost didn't get it because I thought they were too young. However, after talking with David Hazell at a conference, I decided to go ahead with it. So far, it has been good...despite their young ages. I don't expect wonders out of ...

Nature Walks in ECC are all around us! Ideas
I thought I'd post about my successes with Nature Walks which are "scheduled" in ECC. Our first nature walk was when it was 106 degrees (115 heat index) outside. The thought of going outside was just not my cup of tea. In the middle of school, dd asks to take a break. She looks out our sliding glass...

Academics - Feel like I'm not doing enough-how can they be l
I have just finished three days of MFW ECC and it's gone well but I feel like I am not teaching enough--we were done by 12:00 and that's with adding some reading. How can they be learnig enough? My kids are 7 and 9 by the way. Is there anyone who has used MFW for longer than a year and has seen the...

Drawing with Children - Ideas and experiences
Drawing with Children vs. I Can Do All Things??? I am doing 1st grade with my 2 boys and am really enjoying it but I had a question about the art aspect of this program. I have both of these art books (Drawing with children or I can do all things) and it just seems like "I can do all things" is gea...

Favorites from 3 years with MFW For us, it has just worked. This is our 3rd year using MFW, and it definitely has clicked for both me and the kiddos. We have found our niche...and to me, that is sometimes half the battle--finding something that works for you. I don't plan on switching curriculums. ...

I first did MFW K 2 years ago. By the time we learned the 2nd vowel, my dd wanted to learn the other 3 vowels "to help her read better" were her words. So, I taught the other 3 vowels sooner than they were suppose to. We survived. BUT--Yes, each lesson does builds on the one before. It wasn't a prob...
