Re: Do your kids like Kingdom Tales in ECC?
I have two boys and they absolutely LOVED it. It is one of their favorite memories of their ECC year, along with the missionary biographies. They were in 2nd and 4th grade at the time.

Re: Family Ties Experiment Alternatives for Adoption Familie
Well, we are only on RTR this year so haven't done that activity yet.
I'd just skip it. Or maybe do one of those eye color charts with a made-up family so they can practice how to figure it out. I loved doing those eye color charts back when I was in jr high.

Re: Skipping the feasts (gasp)
We did CTG last year in the midst of a major move and so we didn't do the majority of the feasts. We read about them and talked about them though. We did watch Fiddler on the Roof which was fun. The one feast that our whole family did that we really, really enjoyed was the Sabbath. We really loved i...

Re: White Board or Chalk Board or None at all?
I use a product called Chalk Ink - found at craft stores. They are markers that you can use to write on windows, sliding glass doors, chalkboards - the type that places like Starbucks writes with. They come in colorful colors and I love using them!! I bought them at Michaels when they were one sale ...

Independence - How does MFW foster this?
Bought CTG and having 2nd thoughts...a few ??s It is a fabulous program content wise. I love it and find the plans so rich! My concerns are for the future when my kids are in 6th or 7th grade. I don't think that a 6th or 7th grader should need Mom to read aloud as the mode of learning. I want my ki...

Re: Adding Apologia Anatomy to RTR? Thoughts?
I have a 7th grader and 5th grader and we're doing RTR starting in the fall. My oldest isn't ready for the Apologia General Science course yet, so we're putting that off for one year and plan to do the Apologia Anatomy instead (in place of the other human body books). I think it will be a good fit f...

I'm planning to go to our home school convention for the first time next weekend! Don't know why I've never been to a convention - think it never lined up right with our schedule or something. Anyhow, I'm super excited to check out the MFW booth.

OT: Reading for Junior High Boys
I have decided I need some advice from those that may know more about reading development than I do. My ds, 12 1/2, used to be an avid reader. His reading level and comprehension are post high school, but this year I have really struggled getting him to finish a book, novel or non-fiction. He used ...

We lived there for 2 years - here are some of my suggestions: Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs - just pretty and a unique place to visit. Royal Gorge Bridge just outside of Canon City - this is fun and educational. Butterfly Pavillion in Denver area - fun and educational. Aspen is really prett...

Testing and Placement
Because MFW doesn't have achievement testing, I downloaded Lifepac's placement test, to assure that our kids had learned the basic standards of education. We were so disappointed, because there were many concepts our kids never even went over in 2nd grade (defining prefix, suffix, adjectives, nouns...

Bloggers If you post about CTG on there
I am just finishing up CTG. We moved mid-year and so I wasn't very faithful at blogging since then, but I have plenty of posts from the fall. http://www.jc-naturals.com/blogclassicalmom wrote:Can you post your blog here for me?

Re: What are the benefits to studying history?
Great discussion. I think one of the reasons I love MFW so much is the emphasis on history - starting with Creation. In fact, this year my son's notebook has a tab labeled, Bible/History, because it's really so intertwined in CTG. Love it. I really hated history and geography when I was in school. I...

Basic vs. Deluxe Packages
I think I'm going to order K and ECC programs to start this year, but I'm a little confused as to how the packages work. What is the difference between the basic and deluxe? I don't want to be stuck without something, but if they are just neat extras I may be able to economize a bit. Thanks, Kriste...

Re: Boy, do I want to do CTG!
Stephanie, Just my 2 cents - We are currently doing CTG and are really enjoying it. My oldest has Asperger's and we've had no problems with the MFW portion of our school day. He definitely has a short attention span, but as long as we break up the reading and written work, he does fine. We haven't f...

Ages - Is there an ideal age for ECC?
Hi, I'm wondering if you could share with me what you think the ideal age is for ECC? I know it can be adapted for use with different ages. I ask because I have some combining scenarios floating around in my mind and I could potentially use ECC for 3rd or 4th grade with one of my kids, the other ki...

Hi Katrina,
ECC seemed intimidating to me at first, too. But once we actually started it, we LOVED it. Even more than Adventures. My oldest is in 6th grade and ECC has been our favorite year of school so far. Anyhow, hope that encourages you!

Re: CTG Scheduling
I wanted to chime in and say that CTG takes us way less time than ECC did, at least on most days. We are only on week 7 though so that could change as the year progresses. We are usually done within a couple of hours.

I used the plastic sleeves, too. Really love that little invention! If I had a laminator, I would have covered the country names as well. We did ECC last year and LOVED it. Last month we played a game with friends called, 10 Days in Asia. If I had known about it last year, I would have used it to su...

I have to chime in and say that each child is different and what works for one child might not work for another, whether it's MFWs recommendation or not. I think that Singapore Math is a terrific program. We used it for 2 years and although I loved it, both of my sons struggled so much and went from...

I'm doing something similar to Crystal for our notebook pages. I copied the nice big picture of each composer that we'll...
