Re: MfW vs HoD- with some special issues...

I just finished looking through my friend's kiddo's notebook they completed in ADV as a first grader. She had the old book they used as the primary text, and I also got to see the American Patriots/Pioneers book. Tomorrow afternoon some very kind soul is letting me peruse the TM to let me get a bett...

Re: MfW vs HoD- with some special issues...

BTW- I didn't want anyone to get the idea that my kid is a genius, or even that I think so :) He's just capable of understanding some things at a little higher level and gets bored easily if it's all introduced _TOO_ gently :) That's the only reason I mentioned that part. I know some programs tout t...

Two Great Books...

I did not see these listed. One of them I had already and the other was from the library. I had "God Made Our Bodies" by Heno Head Jr. This book is a simple science for kids book and covers the skeletal system, muscles, blood, digestion, 5 senses. Also how they all work together, how we are wonderfu...

Quick apple recipe that is YUMMY and easy

First off, this came from the website of the pioneer woman, who you can google and find rather easily. It is on her pioneer woman cooks page- just search there. I won't link because I am not sure if it's okay to link to her from here- but I will say that the site is clean (with the exception of some...

Science Experiment for Leaf....

Sorry I don't have the reference for which book this came from, but here goes. It didn't work for us, but we were not patient enough to wait for the leaves to soak. This experiment shows the hidden orange and yellow colors that are present in green leaves at all times (but are masked by the green ch...

Crater Cake from Family Fun Magazine...

We made the moon cake recipe above (and added pecans as well) and it was amazingly YUMMY!

I happened upon this Crater Cake after the fact at Family Fun Magazine's website. Thought it might interest someone along the way.

Rising Sun Craft....

I got the book Crafts to Celebrate God's Creation" by Kathy Ross (as mentioned by someone else in the creation section) and did a GREAT little craft with my son for the Sun unit. We took a coffee filter, cut it in half and used watercolors to paint half of it red, yellow, orange, purple and blue (su...

Re: Great song about the SUN!

Hey All! I wanted to pass along that the group "They Might Be Giants" also has a version of the "Why Does the Sun Shine" out there. It's a little more upbeat and less kiddish sounding. I got it through I-Tunes for my ipod, but there is a youtube version with some nice graphics. (I watched it and the...
