We switched too. We are really enjoying both PLL & ILL. It took awhile to finally get there but glad we did.

Re: CTG Scheduling

CTG is not taking so much time for us either. The activities are short and simple. I appreciate that!! One thing we do that speeds things up a bit is after vocabulary we read any history selections together. We go over the notebook page so the kids are clear on what to do. Notebook appears on the in...

Re: Book of Animals for ECC

This workbook is actually good to have for 8 & 9 year olds. I agree sometimes the science was a little too much for my boys. We used the pages often.

Re: Starting CTG on Monday!

This was by far the BEST first week we have ever had!!! :-) I have homeschooled since 2007, two of those years we used MFW. Since we implemented MFW curriculum suggestions & the whiteboard, I cannot express how wonderful the week turned out. My kids got to the schoolroom @ 8:00 am every morning (and...

Starting CTG on Monday!

We're starting CTG on Monday. This is our 3rd yr. using MFW but first yr. using all their recommendations except spelling. We're even using the independent whiteboard. We switched to Singapore, PLL/ILL, GHA, and I'm sticking to MFW science only. I'm looking forward to not formulating other plans out...

How do you motivate them?

Ok, my 9yo DOES have attention issues, but it gets so hard pushing him all day. It took him nearly 2 hours yesterday to do a video math lesson. I know that can't be fun for him and it's definitely painful for me! We are only in week 2 and I had these dreams (haha) of finishing every day before lunc...

Re: Extras for Adventures?

We did Adventures 2 yrs. ago. Here are the extras we actually used: Liberty Kids Videos - these can be played instantly on Netflix if you have access Animated Heroes Videos - Is that what they're called? I can't remember but they are the videos suggested in the book basket. We had all of these on VH...

Re: Sonlight vs. MFW

I used SL Pre-K (what it used to be called) the first year we homeschooled. I loved the choice of books in that program. In fact, I still have many of them today I read to my younger ones. I ended up using the theme schedule offered on SL Preschool Yahoo Group because I wasn't liking the layout of S...

Re: questions about starting K

Social studies for K is things like careers (police officer, firefighter, etc.), world countries or simple map skills, neighborhoods, community, things like that. If you desire to buy something outside of MFW K I suggest a cheap workbook with pics to color and some books from the library along with ...

Re: Singapore Math with a special needs learner

There have been too many times lately Saxon introduces a problem that can be solved mentally but doesn't explain how to solve it. Yes, there was one in basic lesson in mental math using problems like 34+50. Easy, yes, add the tens and ones. Some lessons later the kids were asked to figure out regrou...

Re: Should we switch back?

Adventures was a wonderful program! There are so many lasting memories from last year. You certainly don't have to do every science experiment. One a week perhaps along with a history activity would be fine. I really do not think you will be disappointed and neither will your children. :-) Marsha

Re: Assignment board? Good, bad or neutral??

I am praying my older kids will be more independent next year. It's getting there. :) A couple of times recently, I did give them a list of 3 things to do on the white board. They remained quiet and focused!! There is something to it. So I think I'm going run with that while I work with my K and Pre...

This is just what I needed to know. I think our read alouds will include any of the following: The Golden Goblet, Tizrah, God King, The Hittite Warrior and Victory on the Walls,or Detectives in Togas. Of course my library carries none of these so I will buy a couple and go from there. I noticed Rain...

My 1st grader did Adventures. We were using Rod and Staff Phonics and Reading plus my oldest was in Adventures so I just combined them. It is definitely doable. On the notebooking part of the curriculum, he summarized and I wrote his summary on the board. Then he copied it and drew/colored his pictu...

Hello! Welcome to MFW! I will be praying for you as you begin your homeschooling journey. As far as taking days off, yes to holidays, snowdays, etc. We also take some time off in the summer. I'm going to use these egg free alternatives myself!
I was going to mention the bacon sandwiches on toast. Yum!
Biscuit sandwiches too.
My boys would be SO appreciative of me if I made those on a weekday. :-)

Re: OT-Good breakfasts w/o eggs?

Two of my boys are dairy free. It takes getting used to but you'll get the hang of it. I understand what you're going through. For breakfast I would recommend any of these: fruit smoothie with protein powder (keeps you full, surprisingly) peanut butter on toast with sliced bananas and cinnamon sprin...

My 3 year old did this for a couple of years. He turned 4 in April and I am now realizing he no longer pronounces words the way he once did. Based on Lucy's and Crystal's replies we will probably wait until the year he is turning 5 to start Kinder. He is interested in joining us at the school table but only for about 15 minutes. He doesn't know how to cut yet and he just beginning to draw pictures. So we will wait. Thank you!! Marsha
