Re: ECC 2nd ed w/ 1st edition books, etc

Wow thanks for even researching topics for me ... I'm feeling lazy anyway ;)
I may call the office ...I'm sure in the end it'll all work and not be worth worrying about like you said, right!? :-)

Re: Science alternative for 7th/8th

Forgive me if someone else already said this... as I skimmed some of the responses... Have you thought about checking out the notebooks apologia has now for general science? Or getting the audio cd of the text? I had the same thoughts as you about my DD cringing about general science this year, but ...

Re: question about mfw kindergarten

after the first week they are practicing more than just the 1 letter each week, they will soon be sounding consonant & vowel syllables, and practicing all learned sounds. Plus like other posters said, there's more to it than just learning a letter sound. Lots of fun activities beside the worksheets ...

Also, a puzzle of the United States has helped them. Oh, I just remembered we have a magnetic US puzzle! Where did I put it?? Hopefully all the pieces are there! I think one of the online ones was from Seterra (I know we used their world game, but I think we used the US part for states?). Thanks fo...

Hi, I have 7 children (see ages in my signature line), 5 of which are between 1st & 8th grade. I started w/ ECC when my oldest was in 2nd or 3rd grade (how could I forget that? ;) ) Well, here's maybe more info than what you were asking for ... We are doing 1850 to Modern this year. It took a little...

Re: Need encouragement

At least every-other school year are like this for me (and portions of every school year)! It's hard making it work when you have busy, noisy little ones, especially when they are not content playing on their own. I would definitely consider the advice of doing some things when the little ones are n...

Re: MFW K 100 Chart...sort of dreading it *blush*

I just wanted to say my dc didn't like doing the straws/ bundles for the 100 chart, so to motivate my ds last year we put pennies in a container, one for each day, but when we reached ten pennies we exchanged for a dime. Then he was sooo excited, knowing that he would get to trade the 10 dimes for a...

Re: Grammar?

because he understands the concepts and (more importantly to him!), he wants to get grammar completed now so that he has more time available in 7th and 8th grade for subjects he actually enjoys! This makes sense! I don't want my ds to have to be cramming in extra grammar his 9th grade year. I keep ...

Re: Apologia Phys. Science 1st/2nd editions

Thanks for your replies. I decided to order the 2nd edition kit new from MFW. No one can beat the price that MFW has for the books & Cdrom & the lesson plans that are worth their weight in gold!! I thought maybe I should buy a used 1st edition to save a little $$ ... but it wouldn't have ended up be...

Wow, thanks Dawn, & thanks Julie for that schedule. My dc will read the book in an afternoon as soon as they can get their hands on it. I do see ds gets out the book & looks things up to answer questions. He just isn't into the PP guide though. His answers are very short and sometimes skips question...

Re: How to teach a K, 1st, 3rd & 4th grader AND 2 1/2 y.o. t

I hear your pain! I get overwhelmed each year, but then somehow it all comes together. Last year I had to have my olders watch my little ones while I helped the other students with the non-independent subjects. This year I don't know how everything will come together yet either, because I'm also doi...

Re: Trying to decide about God and the History of Art...

Hi, I did not use GHA in Creation to Greeks but did order it this year to use w/ RtR. Many times I've wished I had used it previously because some of the lessons refer to skills learned in prior lessons ... but if you're just using it for the history/info then you might not worry about this. But sin...

We are currently on week 22 or RtR. We had read most of SoTW vol 1 before starting this. I think RtR is so much better that I didn't feel like things were repeated ... but we didn't read to the very end so I don't know how much would have been redundant. I wouldn't worry about not doing God/hist of ...

Re: pick up the pace with MFW K??

Now, if it is an older than traditional age Kindy child and you are using MFW K as a first trimester of first grade.... then you do take 2 or 3 days to do one letter unit and maybe skip or combine some of the activities in the science section. I think this best describes us. DS picks up the lessons...

Re: Can someone explain K badges?

My dc usually liked to keep the badges in a 4x6 file box for a time so they can take them out and look at them or wear them again, etc. By the end of the year I took the yarn off all the badges & taped them to 8 1/2 x 11" paper, then inserted the pages in clear page protectors to be kept in an art n...
