Re: Scheduling ideas needed...
Hi Teresa, We've used MFW for 6 years, this coming year being our 7th. Like you, we're using 1850-modern times. I'm getting a very late start (our books just arrived today) so my schedule is not hashed out yet. I'll begin working on it tomorrow. It looks to me like you may be able to combine some th...

Re: Need encouragement
A few thoughts (haven't read other responses so forgive any repeats). As you plan your days, (and if you haven't written up at least a loose schedule, I would encourage you to consider it), try to identify a few things your oldest can truly work on independently with minimal guidance. I might plan m...

Expl to 1850 (fun review of Revolution)
My kids got a huge kick out of the Schoolhouse Rock Revolutionary war song this morning. Served as a fun review. You can find it here.

To go along with MFW hymn (Expl 1850s)
After singing our hymn this morning, we watched the "Glad - This is My Father's World" / For the Beauty of the Earth song on You Tube this morning. The image at the end brought tears to my eyes. Enjoy!

Re: Schedule - Fitting it all in
Ours looks basically like this: 8:30-8:50 handwriting/copywork 8:50-9:05 English from the Roots Up 9:05-9:20 PLL and ILL (alternating, 2 ILL 3 PLL one week, then 3 ILL 2PLL the next) 9:20-9:50 math (10 minutes one-to-one with each of my 3 students, while the other 2 work independently on assignment)...

If you have various users set up, click on your dd's name. Then go to the top right and you'll see 4 circular tabs. One is for full screen, one to change users, one is a question mark, and one is...not sure what it is, actually, but THAT is the one. ;) Click on it and then select "set preferences." ...

OH - Put-in-Bay (on South Bass Island) - has 2 caves you can tour (never been, hope to) Rachel, We've been to PIB many times (my best friend in highschool has a summer home there, and my dh and I took our kids every summer until we moved out of state.) Crystal cave is, well, barely a cave at all. M...

Grant's Farm is also free in St. Louis. Very neat place and so cool that it's free. http://www.grantsfarm.com/ Been to the Creation Museum as well. It is awesome, but geared toward children who have advanced reading skills. Because there are so many props though, littles will also be able to get som...

Travel Advice
We may have the opportunity within the next week or so to travel through several different states. I know we are visiting Laura Ingalls Wilder's home in Missiouri and then on to St. Louis. For those of you that live in the surrounding states (Illinios, Indiana, Kentucky) or those that have visited ...

Worldview - Important growing lessons in CTG
I just posted this on "Share your experiences: CTG" but thought you might like to see it in case you don't read that thread. It's been a banner year in CTG. We've loved the pace, activities, and content. And I have to say, I appeciate the reality that we must help our children examine non-Christian ...

Re: Creation to the Greeks -- Share Your Experiences
It's been a banner year in CTG. We've loved the pace, activities, and content. And I have to say, I appeciate the reality that we must help our children examine non-Christian viewpoints in the light of the scriptures. CTG has given us a full year to do just that. My 4th grader is now very aware that...

Re: If you're struggling with ECC
Kim, your post absolutely gave me goosebumps. I love the moments when I *know* God has either directly answered a prayer, clearly spoken to my heart, OR clearly used me (my life, my experiences, whatever it might be) to speak to another. I'm sooo glad now that I posted. I really think you will be pl...

Re: If you're struggling with ECC
I'd say God stirred your heart, if for no other reason, than for Him to speak to me. Thanks for listening to Him and posting. Okay, that literally made my eyes teary. I really hesitated to post, as I wanted my words and tone to breath encouragement and not criticism. I wasn't at all sure I could ac...

Encouragement: If you're struggling with ECC
I hesitated to post this, but honestly it rested heavily on my heart, enough to stir me to post. I visit other hs boards, as I'm sure many of us do. It's a great way to gain ideas, insight, and encouragement and just a fresh perspective (so needed at this time of year, eh?) In doing this, I've come ...

Posted: Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:54 pm I have not used HOD so I'll just speak to a few aspects of MFW that might come into question when comparing the two. For one, I loved that MFW uses missions to so beautifully emphasize the act of serving others as believers. And I love that the bible is integrated ...

Ditto Michelle's post exactly. Dd was a good reader but the review was good, the year was enjoyable (as 1st should of course be) and as she heads into 4th this year, she LOVES reading.

Tourette, OCD and likely ODD in other. And some general ADD just to keep it challenging. ;) MFW has worked well ...

Concentration

Yes, I have one who tends to be oppositional, if not defiant at times. Said child can also be sour and mean spirited toward others without cause. We have dealt with this issue for a very long time, and we continue to pray about and deal with it. No, it hasn't been resolved. No, it won't get better i...

You can make a vegan substitute for sweetened condensed milk, but it might not be worth the effort.
http://www.veganwolf.com/recipes/basics/swcondmilk.htm
Also, you could use soy vanilla icecream or Rice Dream vanilla icecream as a substitute for whipped topping.
