Re: parent/teacher conferences with high schoolers

Thank you for all the replies! I like the synopsis idea - he is used to doing something similar.

I'll read over everyone's other suggestions.

Re: Country Report?

This will most DEFINITELY stretch him quite a bit. I might do well to get 3 pages out of him LOL. But it will be good for him. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Re: anyone have their kids read most of the books on their own?

He's just never been a read aloud type - distraction/time alone really isn't a factor.

Re: anyone have their kids read most of the books on their own?

Knowing him, he'd most likely do his reading in the morning, whereas we do it in the afternoon, so sharing wouldn't be a problem. We already do that for science. I agree...it's definitely not my preference at ALL. But hey if he can absorb more by reading it himself than by me reading aloud to him, I...

Re: Encouragement - Making ECC work in a large family

Coming in late, but I'm glad to see you are feeling less overwhelmed! Next year I will be doing ECC with 7th, 5th, and 4th graders. I will also be doing the phonics, math, and Bible portions of MFW 1st with a 1st grader, and I'll be doing MFW K with a Ker. The 1st grader will sit in on the Ker's sci...

Re: need help with scheduling for next year

I was looking through 1st grade more in-depth last night, and I'm wondering if it will take us an hour to do the non-science stuff. Granted, I haven't gotten to the point at which he'll start reading in the reader, so maybe that will take longer? But I'm up to like day 32 or something, and I'm betti...

Re: Homeschool Tracker

I use HST+, and I do like Kirstin - Week xx, Day y and in the Notes section I say "See T.M." It's pretty easy to do a whole year L.P. that way. I do it because we have to track hours and days in our state. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't bother. -Trish DITTO FOR THE SAME REASON LOLOLOL!!!!! (Trish a...

Re: Homeschool Tracker

I am a Homeschool Tracker addict. :-) That said, for MFW, what I found easiest for the elementary years anyway (so no transcript worries), was to just say "MFW Week 19 Day 3" or something to that effect. I tried entering all the different resources onto particular days and such, and it just ended up...

Re: When there's not a whole lot of green

Thanks for all the great ideas!!! We are very new to this, so I may be full of questions. My kids are definitely not used to just "observing" and "discovering" - it will be a major growing experience for them LOL!

I love the book basket

We just finished our 2nd week of MFW (we jumped into the middle of RTR since we had studied through the Fall of Rome in another curriculum). This was my first week to use the book basket (since I wouldn't have been able to get the books from the library in time for the first week ;) ). My kids are n...

Re: K and 1st, how long?

Thanks, Crystal! That actually sounds a lot like what we do right now - I just move through the kids to do the stuff I need to do with with, and they have stuff they do on their own. "Scaling back" is the key I think...I was worried that the recommendation is to do the whole kit and caboodle with th...

new here

Hi, my name is Kirstin, and we just started using MFW RTR last week. We had just finished studying the fall of Rome in our previous curriculum, so we just jumped right into week 14 in RTR, and away we went! 8) I've used a couple different history curriculums over the past few years, and while they g...
