Saxon or switch for 8th grade - Algebra I
Overall - Saxon is great - it seems thorough and challenging - which I like. However, my 13 year old has always struggled a bit more with math than my younger one does. He just really has to work harder at it. He's maintaining a B average in Saxon 87 & doing ok, but we're having to continue math in...

Geography Co-Op class - ideas!
Hi, everyone, I am in the beginning stages of planning an entire year of geography, primarily using ECC materials, for our church co-op. Help me think things through! First of all, what materials should I recommend that students purchase at the beginning of the year? I am thinking that I would love ...

Re: When to make history notebook entries
Thank you! Also for the reminder to check for specific info week by week. And yes, I do have a ds in 5th grade :) as well as a dd who is in 3rd/4th grade (she has a late Nov. birthday). My ds LOVES Augustus Caesar's World, BTW, and my dd really enjoyed it, too, until we got to the chapters about blo...

Re: Placement test showing borderline levels
Hi! I just did the survey and placement test for my 8 ds. He tested as going into Level E. However, I gave him the placement test for D (instead of E) since he is so young. He got 7 wrong, but then I gave him C and he got 5 wrong. I think I will take the advice of the other poster and look at the wo...

Matthew goes well with ECC
Posted: Sat Jul 26, 2008 1:05 pm
I was thinking that the book of Matthew goes well with ECC in that it begins with a geneology and then the announcement of Christ's birth, and ends with the Great Commission to, "Go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS..."

Re: I truly want to do something just for them
Posted: Thu Mar 06, 2008 8:30 am Another point to consider is that it is very hard to do two completely different historical time periods in the same year. Either have everyone do American history and that general time period, or the ancients. So if you really wanted to do Adventures this coming ye...

Phew! That sounds like a much better plan for a dd who is only 4.25 right now!
I appreciate the education that I received from this thread, as well! I need to role play what good manners and other life skills are all about more, too!

Reading at 2nd grade level
I have heard so many wonderful reviews of this curriculum from the Home For Homeschoolers board I had to come and check it out. The curriculum here looks wonderful and really easy to use. I have an advanced 4-year-old who is reading at a second grade level and doing first grade math. She writes let...

MFW's format
Hi! I'll let others explain more about comparing these programs from a philosophical point of view. I'll just comment mainly on the format. I would say MFW is quite well-rounded in involving the students in actual notebooking and hands-on learning to reinforce what they read...

Just as an aside, I have this very problem. Thank you Lucy and Crystal! I can tell that Singapore Math is the program that really makes us all think! Actually, my ds prefers Horizons because he doesn't have to think so hard (lol).
