Re: When to make them write in cursive all/most of time?

My middle daughter has Sensory Processing Disorder which seriously affects her fine motor skills, so ANY writing for her is torturous. The picking up of the pencil after each letter while she is printing just kills her concentration and comprehension of what she is supposed to be writing, not to ment...

Re: Which Progeny Press lit. guides suggested for 1850 to Mo

We used Farmer Boy because the little sisters were having it read aloud. Since my oldest was listening in anyway I felt that it would be advantageous to do that study. We also used Across Five Aprils because I wanted her to understand the Civil War a little bit more without being overwhelmed. Both w...

Re: Any Roman recipes??

For our Roman feast we had "dormice" with a warm cinnamon dipping sauce, flat bread, peeled grapes, sliced apples, and "wine". The dormice being meatballs with pinenuts in them to simulate bones and then put the meatballs on kebabs. It sound pretty gross, but the kids thought it was very fun. We actu...

Re: Hymn CD?

We LOVE Wee Sing Bible Songs! We are in 1850 to Modern and sing Wee Sing America too. Of Course you COULD go over to the year 4 and 5 pages and "borrow" those songs that a wonderful MFW user has sang and posted. We love that too.

Re: Abraham's Descendants Activity Cards for CTG??

I remember as we went through that part of CTG we had a wall that we put the family tree on, from Abraham all the way to Jesus. We had an interactive thing to do when we read about the different people in the bible, one of my girls would draw a picture and put the name of the ancestor on a sticky no...

Re: Kingdom Tales - you could have warned me

Not just ECC either :) . We are in 1850 to Modern times and our book that I cry every time with is A Child's Guide to Knowing God. Today's was a 2 hanky story called, "A Song of Victory". I think that Marie has consistently chosen books to challenge our faith to help us grow up with the Lord. Yet an...

Re: Preschool box ideas

I have a few ideas that I used for my preschooler. Before I got the Melissa and Doug Pizza party, I had a 9" tan circle I had colored an 8" circle of red on and cut it in to eighths with three or four rolls of painters tape on each of the slices (LOVE PAINTERS TAPE). We then had red circles for pepp...

How to Copy?

I have found pdfs of God and the history of ART with videos to go with some of the lessons!!!!! For someone who can't draw or teach art it has been a blessing. I've been able to print those without ruining the book :-)

Re: RtR Castle Model substitution?

When we were in RTR we used KLUTZ's Castle Building cards where dd1 could build any kind of castle she wanted and it was easy to store when not in use.

Lucy, You could just get the PLL, Spelling and Math to supplement the 1st grade material. But being a crazy mama who did 3 curriculum this year, I can give you some tips if you decide for the Adventures route. You will want to choose one of the sciences from the curriculums or else you will be doing...

We used adventures in my father's world in 2nd grade and are now in the cycle of doing American history again with my 6th grader next year. I noticed exploration to 1850 uses student state sheets. Are these the same sheets used in the adventures program too or are they different? If they are the sa...
