Re: Continue w/ VOD or begin MFWK?

Thanks! I have decided to go ahead and finish VOD w/ her. We will finish up by Nov. so I will do MFWK creation weeks and the new Christmas study while doing lots of review of letters. I'm sure by then she will be ready.

Continue w/ VOD or begin MFWK?

My dd will be 6 at the end of dec. We only completed about 10 weeks of VOD last year and she still isn't recognizing her letters. I am trying to decide if I want to finish up VOD and then start MFWK after her birthday. She will be my sixth child that I've taught to read w/ MFW. She has really no int...

Starting AHL in middle of year?

I'm wondering if this is a possibility before I order. I would like to start AHL around week 16. We have been doing the Notgrass World History this year w/ my 9th grader. I would like to finish the year using MFW's lesson plans. My concern is the writing lessons. Is it possible to just pick up the E...

Re: Dip painting? GATHOA

Yes, we never made it this far through the book before. We just read it but my girls love the painting exercises. I think this is something we are just going to have to try out as it still is not making sense to me, but maybe it will to my girls. I will let you know how it goes. I don't think we are...

Dip painting? GATHOA

Lesson #217. I am not understanding how to dip the brush in the paint. I thought it meant one on top of the other but I don't understand how it will work. Then I'm reading and it's saying put the side of the brush in the paint. I tried googling w/ no success.

Re: Question about diplomas

Some jobs may still ask for that diploma so having it on hand is nice. We are pleased with the transcripts we've made using HSLDA site. My oldest went to a community college and they just wanted his act/sat scores to know where to place him. My younger two are going to a bible college and they wante...

8th grade ?s: Apologia Physical, WWS 1 and RTR

My oldest coming back home for 8th will be 14 this fall. I honestly think he is VERY ready for high school level content in terms of history and that RTR history will be wrong for him. The content is wonderful but SOTW2 is really suited well to the 8-12yo range. ANY thoughts on an older 8th grader ...

Re: help needed, having a hard time with little ones!

Yes, to lots of teaching during nap time. :) I'm trying to think what materials can be used by a 7 yo independently. Mine have not accomplished much at that age. I gave up the idea of schooling in the morning most years and spread it out through the day. Maybe teach math and do the read aloud or bib...

Re: Preschool thoughts....

You might have time to do the preschool program. It is set up like this: pick/up clean up time (chores) which you probably already do, together time activities and suggested reading takes us about 20 minutes :), surprise time about 15 minutes, and then outside time which you probably already do. It ...

High school essay

We are wrapping up our year of AHL. Grueling in some ways, but a good year. The final argumentative essay is supposed to be on the Odyssey, and my daughter is uninspired by the thought. Has anyone ever subbd that essay out for something else, like something from the Bible or, hey, maybe she could p...

Take a pic of your child dressed up as a character from the story or build the story from legos, barbies, playmobile, or whatever toys you can come up with and take a pic.

High School curriculum

O.K., dumb question: Could you just repeat the five year (ECC-1850-Mod) cycle during high school, adding additional writing/research papers and literature? Why or why not? ... :) No, I wouldn't. An older child needs more than what the family cycle offers. They need books that will allow them a deep...

Student Sheets for 2nd Graders?

When ordering EX-1850, would you include a set of Student Sheets for your 2nd/3rd Graders? ... or have them create their very own Notebook more on their level? Re: Kindergarten to hard for my 6 year old

I think that is a good decision. A couple of my kids have needed to go slower through MFWK and 1st. I don't hold them back a grade. At some point my kids have just taken off and then they cover ground quickly you would never know they struggled in K or 1st program. You may find that after taking K m...

Re: Share About Your January

Well, we finally made it to our Roman Feast. I kept putting it off because I didn't want to do the work of organizing it. So I gave it to my girls to organize and they did a way better job than I would have. One of things they did was to write a play about Cleopatra and Antony and their tragic endin...

Re: How do you use Journey Through the Bible?

I try to pre-read it to myself and then decide what parts I want to read to the kids. Sometimes we just look at the pics, sometimes I read the whole thing to them if I think they will find it interesting, sometimes I summarize it, and sometimes I skip it. :)

This week we discovered we prefer to do history before breakfast and bible after lunch. I can do the history reading before my 2yo gets up and the girls snuggle up with some blankets on the couch. The weather is cool here now, in the morning. Then we can talk about what we've read while getting brea...

This is what we are doing for The Human Body for Every Kid book, maybe it will help???? I like to write all the bolded words on a marker board where the kids can see the words while I'm reading.
